New NFL season
Every year it feels like an eternity, but we’re now only a few weeks away.
Thoughts ahead of the season?
Bills are the ones to beat for me. Very well rounded team and a top QB. I’d love to see Bengals do it this time, enjoyed watching Burrow and Chase connect last year.
My team, the Bears, barely worth mentioning although hopefully the new HC/GM can start to get something going. Big season for Fields as well.
Rookies to watch? Not a great class for QBs after being spoiled in recent years. Think it will be more interesting to see how last years rookie QBs do in their sophomore year. Zach Wilson has some weapons to work with now, Lance will be the starting QB. I think we will start to see a glimpse into why Lawrence was regarded a generational talent in college.

Re: New NFL season
Agree no real rookies to be excited about this time round. I think this is the season the Chiefs start to drop back off again. It'll be interesting to see how Denver do with Wilson, but I don't think they've enough of a well rounded team. The Bills should be the team to beat after going all out with a few high profile players in the off season, and the Raiders might be a team to watch. It's a complete unknown for me as a Dolpins fan. Similar to the clarets - new regime and personnel, but I do fancy us to be dark horses with Waddle and Hill as our WRs and 4 very good RBs.

Re: New NFL season
It is indeed quite similar to the Clarets - hard to know for sure what the Dolphins will be like but Hill is a massive signing. McDaniels a highly-rated coach (with a great track record as an assistant). But its the NFL so it all comes down to the QB and I'm a Tua fan - its all set up for him this season. But I'll just be happy with a solid season of consistent improvement after all the nonsense of recent campaigns.Belial wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 10:24 amThe Bills should be the team to beat after going all out with a few high profile players in the off season, and the Raiders might be a team to watch. Hope we can keep this thread going all season.
Washington Commanders(that will never sound right) fan for my sins. Possible big trouble coming if Snyder is proven to have diverted income from the NFL pot into his own pocket. The sooner he’s gone the better. What a nightmare of an owner he’s been and he wants to pass the franchise down to his son.

Tua will be fine dishing the ball out if he’s given enough time to throw
He had one of the worst Olines in the league last year - it makes a humongous difference.
The O-line additions should allow him a bit more time to allow the new speedsters that Miami has to get open.

Yes Tua's make or break you have to think. The addition of a running game will help him as well as a great set of weaponsforzagranata wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 10:45 amIt is indeed quite similar to the Clarets - hard to know for sure what the Dolphins will be like but Hill is a massive signing. The D is one of the best (albeit Byron Jones is now out for the start at least), and with better O like, run game, Waddle and Hill plus Gesicki, I'm optimistic....but as you say, will the pressure on Tua affect him or will he show what he can doPremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 11:32 amI nearly said Dolphins as dark horses. Another tough season ahead for my team the New York Giants, slowly getting pieces in place with the offensive line, edge etc but still question marks entering year 4 for QB Daniel Jones. Looking forward to seeing what Daboll and Kafka can come up with creatively after years of mediocre offences.

Think DaBoll knows what he’s doing though! NFC East is anyones division still, I think McCarthy is totally passed it as a coach

Cowboys very similar to Washington for me. The owner, Jerry Jones, has far too much input with the team.

Pleasantly surprised to find another Lions fan on here! I think you're right to be cautiously optimistic. We're heading in the right direction with the current coaching staff and have recruited well, in my opinion. There were a number of very narrow losses last season and I feel confident we can do much better this year. With the likes of Swift, Hockenson, and St. Brown, we've got some weapons.Vanders1994 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 12:02 pmI feel cautiously optimistic about my team the lions this year made some shrewd picks in the draft and showed something towards the end of last year, although as usual it could all end in disappointment
Did anyone get tickets for any of the NFL London games? I'm going to see Broncos vs Jaguars. I did try and get tickets to see the game in Munich but had half a million people in the queue in front of me. And now of course, we see the cheapest tickets going for at least x10 their value. It's actually about the same cost for me to fly to NYC to see my Lions play the Giants in November -- I'm talking hotel, return flights, and the match ticket. And yes, I'm seriously considering it!

Yeah to be honest I don’t think Danny Dimes is the guy either. Hopefully competitive but just bad enough to draft one of the elite QBs next year (Stroud/Young then a slight drop off to Richardson)CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 1:43 pmDon’t think Danny Dimes is the guy sadly, very careless with the ball

Re: New NFL season
Another Commander fan here, and another one hoping for Snyder's outing, fingers crossed (it won't happen, we aren't that lucky!).
I'm quietly optimistic about my team this season, I think they might surprise a few, and I hope at least make the playoffs - the Cowboys and Eagles aren't as strong as they are being touted imho. Whilst prone to the odd brain fart, Wentz has a decent arm which will open up their offense, rumour has it they'll air it out a lot. The Commanders have some decent weapons, watch out for rookie Jahan Dotson, been really impressive in training camp, and should have single coverage with Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel coming back from injury.
Got to say I fancy the Bills to take it this year, great on both sides of the ball and Allen is quality, but there's always a surprise contender or two each year, that's one of the things that makes the NFL so exciting. Chargers and Bengals look to be at decent odds to me, Rams won't be far away either.
I for one can't wait.

Been a Broncos fan since 1986 and I finally get to see them at Wembley this year. Way up in the gods but really looking forward to it. Bit lucky it's this year with new coach and Russell Wilson as I think we'll be a much improved team thank god.williamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 3:08 pmPleasantly surprised to find another Lions fan on here! No mention of my Packers??? Looking strong this year, just a question mark around replacing Adams, but defense looks better and QB has settled down (off the field), could go all the way.

That's great! Yes, I think the Broncos will be good to watch this year. They had a strong run game last season and now have the added bonus of having a good QB so let's see where it takes you. I've been to three games in London so far and this is my first time seeing the Jaguars surprisingly so looking forward to seeing them play finally as well.

Re: New NFL season
I said I fancied the Rams last year, I'll go with them again even though I haven't kept up to date with the roster moves at all, so I pick the Rams assuming Donald hasn't retired, Ramsey, Kupp, Henderson, Van Jefferson are all still there.
Re: New NFL season
I'm really looking forward to both the American football and ours this year. Reckon the Bills are at their peak right now and need to take advantage this year. The play offs were unbelievable last year. I know a lot of people don't get it (tried for years to convince my mates) but I defy anyone who loves sport to watch he bills / chiefs play off game last year and not be amazed.

A fantasy league could be good. I know you have to be careful about getting permission from the mods for this sort of thing.

Now let's talk Jags.... offense looking good but shaky D against the run has been a big problem in the last few seasons. Think mid position finish this year rather than bottom but that's the limit.

Re: New NFL season
Did the official NFL fantasy last year with a few mates (10 to a league but I think you can create your own too so could have more). The draft is the best bit
Re: New NFL season
I'm not on the Bills hype train at all, I'm surprised they're favourites to win the whole thing. Have Bills recruited some good players in the off season? I think they really lack receivers, so reliant on Diggs.
Re: New NFL season
They got Denver legend Von Miller, though he's probably passed his best. Probably their defense that stopped them winning the superbowl last season. Agree they lack depth beyond Diggs at WR but you could argue it hasn't really stopped them with the numbers Allen put up. Not sure who they've got in but I think they're a bit short in the running game. Any Afc team hoping to win the superbowl needs to beat KC as has been the case for about 5 years.
Re: New NFL season
Personally, I like the keeper leagues. You sort of get attached to your squad and having to draft them back again every year is frustrating.
I have two keepers on fleaflicker, one including a 10-man defensive squad, which is unusual.
On the real field, the seahawks are likely to have another so-so season with the nfc West having the second best squads in the league after the afc West.
Re comments above:-
Optimistic about the chargers. I think denver will find out that they traded for somebody that used to be better than he now is - unless they can train r Wilson to get out of shelvey-mode and get rid of the ball quicker.
Drake London will be a bust (although he might be decent for fantasy) as he seems to have no capacity for yac.
Sorry, but tua will hold miami back. He's just not on the money with his passing. That squad would otherwise be good enough to make a run for the thing.
Agree "the football team" was an accidental cool name and they should have kept it.
Zach Wilson will flourish second half of the season if he survives the first half intact. Awful schedule.
Hope the cowboys go 7-10, get a low draft pick which they then waste and continue with Mccarthy into oblivion. They are nfl man utd. Still a weak division though, although eagles look to have improved.
Good drafts from jets, lions, eagles and packers.
Hope to see continued success from Bengals as I went big on them in the fantasy draft last year.

Re: New NFL season
Well they won't be that good. The plan seems to be to get a good squad in place but to be fairly rubbish for at least one more year so that they can eventually draft a replacement for goff in dropping the new guy into a ready-made contender. It will help when his 30,000+ salary cap figure has gone but there are 3 more seasons of that.superdimitri wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 7:00 amPeople seem very upbeat here about the lions next season but then again it's really not hard to do better than they have been for years and years now.

Re: New NFL season
I think the issue has mainly been from the top down. Bad ownership leading to bad management and recruitment. Yes the draft system helps but it's also about picking up those gems with late draft picks. There's been plenty of flops from early picks.. and sometimes they can take some years to get decent anyway.timshorts wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 7:45 amWell they won't be that good. If they can turn things around I think it will take some time still.

Never done a keeper/dynasty league either. Have won quite a few standard fantasy Super Bowls.
Wonder if the Las Vegas Raiders are this years ‘Cincinnati Bengals’ making a long run into the playoffs. Made some clever additions this off season

Re: New NFL season
3 keeper league vacancies in one of my leagues
Fleaflicker league number 322062.
The settings work really well and you unusually get to draft Edge rushes, safeties etc.
Drawback is the draft is early hours this Tuesday. One of the teams available has najee Harris.
It's in its second year. My other league hasn't been activated yet but has been going 10+ years. That one had more than one Claret in it, possibly 3 at one point.

Re: New NFL season
Raiders fan for my sins. A near lifetime of disappointment.
This year there is cautious optimism. The new front office appears to be competent which makes a change, we've made some really good FA pickups and the draft wasn't a head scratcher (no picks until the 3rd round though).
We've got a really good receiving corps. I love Hunter Renfrow.
We've got 2 great pass rushers.
I'm worried about the oline and the secondary.
The AFC West is looking like the most competitive division this year. Every team thinks they have a legitimate shot at winning it.
Can't wait for the season to start.

It's actually about the same cost for me to fly to NYC to see my Lions play the Giants in November -- I'm talking hotel, return flights, and the match ticket. And yes, I'm seriously considering it!
Detroit, a post industrial City with a team that were one of the " greats " in the past, with loyal fans, trying to come back to former glories ! Sound familiar ? I fear, however, it won't be this season ...
