I'm sure there's no rush, aggi. Burnley have got 3 points from one game. Every other team can finish ahead of Burnley if Burnley don't get any more points and all the other teams score their maximums. The league table is all we need to know how we are doing through to Feb/March next year.

New spreadsheet with a new link (I made a copy of the old one so it's easy to use next season when we're back in the Premier League ...). Obviously pretty meaningless at the moment and I've hidden the various form stuff until we've played half a dozen games.

Not sure what you mean. Isn't promotion just waiting for everyone's magic number to go down to zero?

I’ve sussed what I was after for the top end. It’s comparing our points on the board with their “max available”. Once they can’t match us they are done.

That's exactly what the magic number is.
We have 47 points
Sheff Utd have max of 113
Magic number is 67 (113 - 47 +1)
That final 1 is because it doesn't take into account goal difference (which changes through the season) so you technically need 1 more point than the max to ensure you can't be caught.

When the magic number gets down to zero a team can't catch us.
