Absolutely; great feet.
Tricky. Kind of player we pay to see.
Our players clearly rate him more than some on this board because they kept looking to give it to him!

Re: Benson
I do agree with the Lennon part, I liked that Nkoudou fella we had from Spurs on loan for a similar reason to what you said about Benson, he never hid and felt like he had the most touches on the pitch (when he played). Exciting to watch because you have no idea whats coming, row Z or top corner after dribbling past 2 or 3.Ric_C wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:33 pmDisagree in the main with KBRFC on this one. The main problem was just not having enough options to hit in the box on occasions. He's essentially a replacement for Lennon and he offered much more than he would. He looks like he will never hide, and was always an outlet.
Thought a couple of his left footed crosses were genuinely good, just needed another body in the box as Barnes was on a different wavelength, which will naturally happen due to everyone getting to know each others game.

Disappointing that in a new team in a new league in a new country with 3 days preparation and half a game that he only got himself into two goal scoring positions

Re: Benson
Exciting cameo. I actually thought he put some decent balls in too but they weren’t really attacked. He’s going to be erratic but I saw enough to show that he’s going to cause some serious headaches for Championship defences.

Watched back some highlights and he actually put a couple of excellent balls in, unfortunately no one attacked the space, I’m sure that will come with more playing time together / more attack minded players to come in.

Re: Benson
We know from reports in Belgium that he is great 1 to 1 but needs an end product, thought at the time it sounded like Dwight. The market we are shopping in means we need players to improve after we sign them. That’s fine. Really looking forward to seeing Benson and TalkSport saying he was like a little Messi was brilliant.

Re: Benson
Like what I saw of this lad, and he gave us a lift 2nd half, yes he could improve his end product, but equally he also delivered a couple of dangerous balls which troubled their defence.
Sure he could have buried that chance, but all players miss chances, the good signs are he's getting into positions, and he'll provide us with plenty of entertainment this season judging by that 45 minute cameo.

Re: Benson
A very promising start. Loved the interview.
Re: Benson
I find some of these comments really difficult to comprehend. I thought he looked electric from the first touch.
Speed to burn, looks to take on his man straight away. Will give a lot of full-backs severe headaches and sore backsides this season.
Yes, he got a bit carried away with his shooting but I think that was due to wanting to do too much too soon.
Give him a few weeks to adapt to the country, club, teammates and system and he should be a real asset.

As I said when he was mentioned on here first: great prospect but needs to improve his end product. I believe he will be able to do so over the next few seasons

Re: Benson
Benson looked very promising from where I was at the Jimmy Mac end of the Bob Lord. To put on a performance like that having only arrived in Britain on Thursday was astonishing.
I'm sure he'll improve his crossing as he gets used to the other player's movement What scares me is if he embarrasses too many full backs, one of them will cripple him.

I think some people don't always make a link between your user name and where you might live.
Re: Benson
Had three good opportunities where he failed to deliver a telling ball as well as the shot if you can call it that which was poor. Clearly all left foot but playing on right wing.
If he can sort out his final ball he will be exciting to watch.

Reminded me of Jean-Louis Valois!
Re: Benson
Yes we could. He needs to get into the box and his pace will terrify some defenders and hopefully concede a penalty. The team will work on how to get him into the box. He certainly provided some real zip.on the right.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 5:49 pmI can see us winning a few penalties (remember them?) with this lad.

Re: Benson
He provided a much needed tempo to our attacking play following a ponderous 1st half, and he did put in a couple of dangerous crosses, which arguably should have been attacked, but this will come with more understanding, for his debut he showed plenty enough to suggest he'll be a valuable player over the course of the season, and he's the type who excites fans, and this is what we've been crying out for for ages.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 12:07 pmBenson looked very promising from where I was at the Jimmy Mac end of the Bob Lord. Regarding full backs putting the boot in, this is where we'll need strong referees, and I also noticed Luton doubled up on him a few times, so clearly they realised the threat he posed, but if teams are willing to do that it may create space for others if we can switch the play quickly enough.

Re: Benson
Compared to most of last years squad he is!
Re: Benson
He’s frightened to get kicked, frightened to take players on and frightened to cross the ball. You can see why he was relatively cheap.
For all the criticism Costelloe got, he looks like a better option to me.

Re: Benson
In this week's edition of The Football League paper "The Big Interview" was with Vincent Kompany and there were some interesting comments regarding recruitment. On the subject of Benson, Quote "Benson, for instance, was recruited specifically because he had played in Belgium's top flight, a division with physical demands that Kompany says are comparable to the Championship."

That's pretty much what happened when we signed Brownhill, so it looks like Benson is next for the hated list.

People were on here saying Lyon and Marseille wanted him, if so, I'd look to move him on immediately, of course he'd get nowhere near those sides.

I like him. He was gutted for missing those chances vs Luton, he mentioned it in the programme. Good attitude. His finished product should come. Some poor crosses tonight.

Re: Benson
I was worried when I watched an 8 minute clip of him on YouTube. Considering these things tend to be a showcase of a player’s talent, he showed lots of pace and trickery, but just one goal and no successful assists!
OK, you can’t judge a player off YouTube clips, but his stats support the impression of no end product - his goal scoring record is lamentable for an attacking player.
Nothing I’ve seen so far threatens to change my first impression.
