Once his new fellows learn how to deliver the ball, he will get goals, to add to his other undoubted contribution.

Blind faith is all well and good Ian, but nothing in the last 2 or 3 years suggests he's good enough to fit into a team that wants to play football.

To be fair Barnes should fair a bit better now we have an out and out winger that will cross the ball.

Not saying he’s going to be prolific but he should be more affective

One thing is for sure, we won't get automatic promotion with either Barnes or Jay starting every week. Both are a long way past their best, Barnes was never quick but he's lost a yard of what little pace he did have. I think Barnes has a role to play off the bench to hold a lead with 15-20 to go. Shocking decision to award Rodriguez a 2 year deal imo.

I agree, I think if promotion is the target realistically we need a striker that’s going to bag 20

Sadly last year Ashley would definitely not have got in to any other PL side.It was SD's loyalty to him and our shortness in numbers that meant he would start or feature. This season I could not see him holding his place in any Championship side serious about getting into the top half. He is not the answer. At best he is the "nuisance value" you can bring on from the bench when game managing 3 points with 10 minutes to go

I both agree and disagree with you.

I’ve written Barne’s off and he isn’t what we need. However the first couple of games he’s played well without being too threatening.

He is definitely not threatening. No goals last season other than a pen, no goal in pre season, and no goals this season in 180 minutes of play. But very consistent

I love Ash, but he isn't designed for this game.
He isn't fast enough to exploit the balls through the channel, it's why he gets caught out offside, trying to get that edge. A faster striker wouldn't be wasting those opportunities, and a good move that ends with the offside flag, is a wasted opportunity.

He will always give 110%, and for that you have to support him, but the sooner we get the 'striker' we need, the better.

I don’t think the issue is the quality of the delivery into the box, just the surprise element in that the ball HAS been delivered into the box by someone other than the full backs from our own half.

That sounds harsh I know, but let’s be honest here… Barnes is pretty one dimensional. We don’t need a battering ram now. We need him to get on board very quickly with how we play NOW, not how we used to play. His role is different. This team should NOT be adapting to him. It should be the other way around.

Fortunately, I don’t think we will have to wait much longer until we pick up one or two forwards which will then leave Barnes exactly where he should be - an impact sub when we are chasing a game. “Go and win me a free kick on the edge of the box Ash” Twine takes it and BANG, back in the game.

There will be fans on this Board shouting for us to give Barnes a new two year contract if we go up. Time to move on. A poacher will get us the points. There will be many more games like the Luton one, where we eventually dominate but fail to take the endless chances. The bar has been set by both Ings and Gray who knew where the onion bag was. Hit it enought times and you are in the Premier-both proved it convincingly, without the help of the play offs

I am content in my evaluation of Ashley Barnes. Also, that players adapt to each other and will know the runs to make and the balls to play.

2 assists is a good start!

There’s never been a plentiful supply of goals from Barnes for his entire career and that won’t change now. Dyche didn’t buy him as a prolific goalscorer but he’s almost always contributed in many ways to our performances when he’s played. VK wouldn’t play him if he didn’t think he offered something to the team. Let’s just continue to support him when he plays and see what happens.

“VK wouldn’t play him if he didn’t think he offered something to the team” is there any other alternative choice with vydra injured gone anyway & JR injured & WW out on loan I guess we could play the game without a forward or chuck somebody completely inexperienced in.

You’ve answered your own question and provided two alternatives. I’m assuming VK thinks Barnes offers more than the two options, and I’d agree. But I’d be surprised if we don’t bring at least one more striker in.

Was willing to give Barnesy a chance as I thought he’d not really been fit for a couple of years, but a full preseason behind him and he looks so far off it even at this level. If we don’t get a striker, we’re not going to make top 6.

He's doing a job when we've very few options and has contributed to us winning 4 points from 2 games.

Once we've got someone else to play up front he may well revert to being a bench warmer but until then we know he will does his very best for us.

For the 400k we paid for him we've had an excellent return and this will most likely be his last season here.

This in a nutshell, he's wholehearted enough, and will contribute, but he isn't going to suddenly start rattling in the goals, and neither is Jay much as we might wish to believe it.

I appreciate VK wants goals for all areas of the park, and our LB, and CM, have already bagged this season, however if we have aspirations of automatic promotion we need a regular scorer, we've created plenty of openings in our first 2 games to suggest that any half decent striker will thrive in this team and system.

What I always admired about Barnes was how he would take a chance early, which often caught out the keeper.

Unfortunately, he's a yard too slow to get to the chance now.

Yep, Barnes was super at those instinctive first time finishes.

Like you say, his mobility has gone, as has his first touch, which was always pretty decent.

He’s done ok….we have had nobody else. So I don’t want to blame Barnes. He’s been a great servant for us and a big character at the club.

He was poor tonight and he is not the answer…..unless the question is ‘who is our 4th or 5th choice striker this season ?”

Absolutely, Barnes take his fair portion of blame why we’ve only managed two goals in three games.

His role as a striker is to ultimately put the ball in the net, and he’s not doing that, because his mobility and touch has gone.

Yes, there’s a number of reasons why we’re not scoring, but Barnes is one of, if not the biggest reasons.
