I'm sure we'd be happy for him to move on if there was any takers. I don't see Kevin Long or JBG ever kicking a ball for us again either.

Ditto, both done a great job, particularly Lowton when he was on his A-game he was one of the best right back I’ve seen in my 30 years of watching.

Great servant for us. Hopefully he is still motivated to play and will accept an offer to move on, for the benefit of both parties.

Sad about Lowts. Still feel he has a lot to offer and his experience could be vital.

Don't really understand why he lost his place, i never saw Roberts as a clear upgrade.

Anyway best o luck to him. And Longy.

Surely you can see that Roberts suits this new system far more than Lowton?

He was suspended for our first two games. Has VK said he’s not wanted?

Probably based on a finances with his wage I suspect roughly being in line with PL stature, I think it was mentioned somewhere that VK wasn’t adverse to a few old heads for experience making up the blend & lowton fits the bill there to conclude it must be money orientated to free wages up.

Publicly he said today that he’s told him he won’t get many minutes on the pitch. I believe his conversation with Lowts was before the season kicked off.

Not in so many words, but when asked if he would be in contention for this weeks game in today's press conference, he said that he's spoken to him and said he won't be getting as many minutes as he'd like, but he's an experienced member of the squad and he's gone about training as professional as he is

He is unlucky that we now have good cover for RB if you count Vithino. He has had a successful spell for Burnley having played a huge part in us remaining in the PL for 6 years, and he has largely been our RB for most of the time, plus the year we won the Championship. Football moves on at a fast pace, and with the new management and culture re youth, he is not likely to feature. For me its more critical to move on JBG and Long if we are that desperate to reduce wages. I guess all three moving on will allow us to better use that cost. I know its easy to stay and take a wage for all three, however if this happens I cannot see them getting new contracts in the future. Time for heir agents to earn their corn

Not that long ago (18 months) since that goal of the season at Palace when he was in great form.
Difficult season for him last year like most of our team but he still had some really good games for us.
Roberts needed a chance but jury is still out for me as to whether he was an upgrade on Lowts.

He’s been a very good player for us and seemed to love playing for the club. Hopefully he gets one decent last contract for a decent club.

He’s been a great signing. Can’t see him moving on unless someone offers him decent wages. May as well see his contract out.

I suppose there should be a question mark on the title of this post. I’m not sentimental - apart from my feelings about Barnes - but I do think we should retain Lowton at the club.

No one's actually said he has no future, but limited minutes. I suppose if we are looking at 2 in every position then there will be a few with limited minutes.

Thought Lowton was performing far better than Roberts last season and was very unlucky to lose his place.
Whoever came in at right back after Trippier had a hard act to follow but I think Lowton has been a great servant.

I wouldn't be fussed if we got JBG, Long and Lowton off the books, can't see any of them featuring much this season, and they'll all be on a decent wedge.

Lowton was linked to West Brom earlier in the window, but that seems to have gone quiet.

JBG is on the treatment table far too often too attract firm interest.

Long would be a good experienced signing for some of the bigger League 1 teams chasing promotion, but again he didn't play a league game for us last season, and I doubt he'll be in Vinny's plans for this campaign.

Not too sure Roberts is an upgrade on Lowton to be honest. VK likes to keep the ball and Lowton is better on the ball than Roberts

I've always liked Lowts. Seems like a good lad. Yes, he had his limitations but we're Burnley. He did seem to alternate between good spells and poor ones and switching with Bardo for periods often seemed to work.

Absolutely sure he'll do a good job for someone in our league.

Wherever he goes, I wish him the very best.

Would be stupid to let Lowton go, if Roberts picks up an injury or gets a suspension then we would be in trouble. Lowton could still have an important part to play this season, you can’t predict injuries.

Always thought he was better than Roberts, sadly it looks like he's being pushed out, always steady for us,if he does move on I wish him well and his volley last season forgot who it was against was a cracking goal.
Good Luck Lowts.

IF. I was one of his biggest fans, great when we first signed him, but alas, doesn’t seem to be able to get fit after the thuggery from Lincoln City in that cup game.

I guess we would use Egan-Riley or Vitinho.

Fairly obvious we are now going for the style of fullback that the Champions League sides like Liverpool, Chelsea and City have. Whether that works with a lesser standard of player we will have to see.

But it appears that the days of Burnley having no pace in the side are over.

Best of luck and thanks to Lowts, but his day is gone now at Burnley. We have to move on.

Yes I guess we could, and given at a push we currently have Egan-Riley, Lowton, Roberts or Vitinho who can play right back, it could be argued we're carrying too many for one position, therefore it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Lowton or Roberts left this window, possibly both might even depart if we get a sizeable bid for Roberts.

Sounds radical but Kompany hasn't been shy to ring the changes he deems necessary so who knows what the next 3 weeks will throw up.

If his time is up then so be it.

7 years, 201 appearances, many as first choice and in the PL, all for a bargain fee rumoured to be less than £2 million.

Love Lowts and will be sorry to see a top pro go. I still think his attitude and professionalism could see him work his way in to VK’s plans. I think we need that leadership and experience, particularly at critical times in the season and especially if we ended up in the play offs.

But to the thread title, there’s no way a 33yo is or should be our future. VK will rightly want to invest playing time in developing our future squad and players when opportunities arise.

I prefer Lowts too to be honest but it appears VK doesn’t. That said he said in his press conference he’d been training well and was ‘on a mission’. To coin Popey’s phrase, he’s not ******* dead yet!!

Never ceases to amaze me this board. Perhaps take a look around and see what's happening at the Club and try understand the new direction we want to go in. The days where we have 30 plus year olds are long gone.

I agree with the overall way we are going. However, I think Lowt's would be useful this season. He's a good player and would bring a bit of nous to the squad. He's a good footballer and could cover several positions.

I think Lawton has been a marmite figure his entire time at Burnley (and I suspect at Villa before). Probably do to the difference in level of his game that makes him a liability out of form, but a top performer when things are going well.

I suspect he is currently out of form, natural given all the change occurring around him. I’d be in no rush to get him out of the door, but I don’t pay his wages.

I saw an interesting comment on twitter about Lowton.

He's done more for Burnley than Trippier but isn't lauded half as much.
