For any Clarets driving down the M1, traffic reports show the M1 is closed between J14 and J13 due to an accident involving a crane, queueing back to J15 Northampton. Estimated to return to normal around 18:30 so could make it a bit tight to get to Watford for 20:00 kick off.

If it’s not too late to divert, go down the A1 instead

scrub that A1 looks bad towards Peterborough too - looking a bad day to travel down. Like said above - Waze is your friend for this

Current situation looks crap everywhere...

If it was me - I'd come off at Northampton and head towards Bedford on A428 then go around the out skirts of Bedford onto the A421 back towards the M1 J13 - its always busy on a Friday though

Of course it could all change a bit later today

Just arrived In MK, came off M1 onto A43 then A5 into MK with no problems. Staying here tonight and train into the real ale desert that is Watford. A5 and A5183 re joins M1 in Dunstable area.

That is exactly the diversion i was going to suggest, continue on the A5 past MK down to Houghton Regis/Dunstable and pick up the M1 again at J11a. A43 towards Silverstone, then left onto the A5 at Towcester. Single carriageway down to Stony Stratford then dual carriageway beyond MK.
