I enjoyed that performance. We aren't quite clicking just yet but you can see the team taking shape.
Quite a bit of quality there, just needs a bit a physical presence adding to make it complete.
If NC93, Tarks ears & Boysie can't see the potential then they need to change their hobby.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
I just thought we made some really poor decisions in the final third tonight, hence I think the centre halves and Brownhill/Cork apart, it’ll be fairly low scores on the ratings thread.

A bit more in the second half but nowhere near good enough. In fairness they are a group of strangers to each other and the manager has not had enough time with them. But we do have a long way to go to be an effective outfit.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Very poor performance for me.
Lots of desperate passing with the receiver having to slide in to win the ball.
Only one through ball (that won us a red card).
No threat at all until they went down to 10 men.
Nothing up front.
The first half at Huddersfield has raised expectations to much I think.
We need a more attacking game plan.

I've seen the word "toothless" a bit tonight. Despite needing to be better in the final third - we weren't toothless. Just because a team doesn't score doesn't mean they're toothless. Look at the shots on target compared to Watford's, look at the saves.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Completely obvious observations:
We need to be more compact to start with, find our feet in games then open up more as we dominate and shift the ball around. If we start as open as we have for the last two games then teams will soon catch on that all they have to do is pin Maatsen back early, or if not, then get in the gaps behind our fullbacks, overload us and they'll nick a goal. After that they just sit back and watch us pass it about with no way of hurting them (appreciate we scored against Luton but you get the idea).
I've seen enough to know that we can get down the wings easy enough but we're short of a player who can get around the edge of the box, or at least occupy players there. Twine being injured is probably hurting us more than we thought. We look flustered through the middle.
No panic here though, it's clear to me that if we tidy up on the details, bring in another 2 or 3 players (another number 10-type and a striker or two) then we've got enough to be happy about.

Well you can see the work in progress , its going in right direction , striker signs next week so will get better,
Bench is definitely strong Vitinho , mcnally all looked good in cameos.. definitely better with cork in side as was said for much of last year. But you can see the plan so nothing to worry about this early in the season.

Watford away is one of the hardest fixtures in the Championship. We restricted them to one chance. Other clubs will lose points here too. If these are one of the better teams then thats a good sign

It's almost like that some on here are expecting us to breeze every game. We are a new team learning a new system of play with a new manager. 3 Games in we have an away win, a home draw and an away loss to a very fortunate and decent Watford side, what is the ******* problem?!

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
I'm not sure what people are slitting their wrists for. We battled and were beaten by a brilliantly worked goal. We had most of the possession and most of the chances. I don't recall Watford having many chances.
We knew we needed a few new striking options. Ride the punches. Take the ups and downs. Watford are NOT a rubbish team. They still have the main parts of their prem team and rolled through their previous year in the championship.
Now is not the time to be weak and start over-reacting. Give them time to gel and build.

Also, forgot to say, I'd hate to be playing football in this weather. Extreme weather hasn't been kind to us in games against Watford recently.

Sometimes you just need to chill, I’m ****** off by the result, but I can see the positives. And realise what a massive job Kompany has in front of him. But so far I’m happy with his start, I think his philosophy is the right one.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:08 pmIt’s just typical RV

3 games in and the absolute Muppets are out in force..
Patience is required, but no let's slag of a new team and manager for a narrow defeat at a promotion favourite!
They did a job on Benson and changed shape to cope with us..We switched off for the goal but in the 2nd half battered them. Hit the bar, good saves from the keeper and we are a work in progress..
More players on the way and players like Twine to be fit.
We will get stronger and better! UTC

Very black and white on here. Yes it's disappointing but it's a very long season. Don't need to be pep guardiola to see we need a pacey forward. Result makes a big difference to the reaction and had we nicked a (deserved) point it would be a lot calmer. Obviously some things need looking at but you can really see in our brighter spells that we aren't far short.

We will get better, today we was up against a strong physical side Barnes was up against a guy who matched him in every way, gave it to Barnes just has much Barnes gave it to him
Only criticism I have is we didn’t move the the ball at pace like we can do
Not all gloom and doom at all! We had our moments
On to the next game UTC

2 strikers required + Churlinov and a proper centre half, and a bit of patience from the supporters. Get behind the boys , it’s a brand new team almost , it won’t happen over night . Move the ball a bit faster and I think it will be half decent

I am very chilled out
We passed it around the defence for 90 mins and offered nothing going forward.
I will stick by the view that Dyche would have this team considerably more effective.
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Disappointing result, unlucky to lose. Not quite on it tonight though, but it's a new team and system. It will take time. There are some undoubted good signs. No doubt we'll get stronger with more players coming in and time.
Plus point, thought Vitinho was very lively.

All the new players would get nowhere near a Dyche team. It’s a new era with a new possession based style in which the opposition have had 1 shot on goal in 2 away games. Lots to be positive about and I think with the new additions we will be top 2.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
Dyche wouldn't have any of these players. He'd have a team made up of Andrew Driver, Dayle Stephens, Henry Lansbury and any other over the hill pros that were prepared to play his brand of football.

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
I think Twine may well play off our main striker in a roaming 10 role when he is fit, with the rest of the wingers/attacking mids rotating , but a competent number 9 is required, who can actually get in behind, Jay will score goals this season but I think Barnes is only good for the last 15 this season
Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
New managers don’t always have immediate success, Alex Ferguson one of the best, was one game away from being sacked by Man U, apparentlyNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:15 pmI am very chilled out

Re: Watford V Burnley Match Thread
First half we were playing it long because nobody was showing for the ball, and when you saw a wide angle of the pitch it was obvious why. No movement, this running in and out of positions to create space wasn't happening. It wasn't because Watford were good, we were just static.
The result was we held onto the ball too long, and got caught in possession, or had to play it long and lost the ball in the air.
We need to keep the ball on the deck, keep rotating those positions and definitely by a quick off the shoulder striker.
Possession stats show we are getting a part of it right, but with no finish possession is pointless.
We knew that it would take time to get it right, Huddersfield gave us a false impression that we would click sooner rather than later, but still a lot to be happy about. With a bit of luck we could have had 9 pts, but realistically only deserve the 4.

We were decent in the second half, and unlucky not to get something from the game. I know stats aren't everything, but they scored from their only shot on target.
Mind you, we could do with a centre forward.
