Bastian playing like he did in the first half against Luton, no midfield, we really miss cork. I hope Lowton comes back into this side as Roberts is all over the place.
We are in desperate need of another striker as well if that wasn’t already obvious and it seems like City have had our pants down with Muric. Going to be a long season looking at this side. We have now gone too far in the other direction, we lack experience and boy does it show.
I think roberts has been one of our better performers first half

Can't disagree, don't see anything in any penalty shouts and think we've looked toothless and defensively error prone.
Muric is dreadful, Maatsen having a ropey game at the back, Barnes toothless, Bastien looks horribly out of position, we've been way too slow to get it to players at times especially Benson (though he looks lost in possession) and I wouldn't know Costelloe was on.
Need some big changes at half time, this was looking like a poor 0-0 but with us gifting Watford opportunities. Now it's looking worse.

Taylor hasn't done a lot wrong there. There are numerous other players at fault for that goal. Taylor was solid. It's our absolute lack of threat at the other end that is the main concern.

Really good test for our new young players - this is the top of the Championship in all its, well, whatever it is. Physical, cynical, quick - can our guys prevail in the kind of maelstrom these games create?

My view - not yet, but in a few weeks or months, they will.
Excellent post asking for patience. 8-)

Look to move the ball forward more , this looking to go back first is not effective .

More to come from this Burnley side over the season but it would be good to get a good second half.

Seems to he a lot of passing from us but nowhere near anything dangerous. Very similar to first half at Turf Moor.

Maatsen is everywhere tbh. Bit harsh blaming him for the goal tbh.
Absolutely this.

Not wanting to be too harsh on Costelloe but he’s giving Maatsen nothing to work with.

Need Vitinho and J Rod on asap.

We didn't. We do need a striker that is not Ashley Barnes for sure, but it doesn't mean we aren't playing well.

This is pretty much the Watford team that came down. We have had a complete rebuild with younger players and this is only their 3rd competitive game together. A striker (or two) and we will be a very good team. We are matching them in every way.

A lack of a striker hasn't been our problem in that half, the system VK plays requires a lot of intensity and it just hasn't been there first half.

Moving the ball too slow. Sorry but Costelloe is far from the answer to our championship hopes. Had a half decent start against Huddersfield, who, are crap. Since then got worse.

Jay for Barnes
Vitinho for Costelloe
Tella for Bastien

Muric
CR THB CT IM
Cullen Brownhill
Benson Tella Vitinho
Jay

We played further up the pitch vs Huddersfield and there were always midfielders running into the channel. I haven’t seen that at all this first half
Maybe because Watford will be up there challenging for promotion whereas Huddersfield on their performances so far battling against relegation. Watford are simply better opponents.

I’ve got to admit, after that 45 minutes I’m still struggling to see where our goals are going to come from.
Yes that is a concern, we've had a lot of the ball, certainly prior to the drinks break anyway, but again not really offered a goal threat.

This is where we're missing a proper number 9 to worry teams, but it does appear we're working hard to rectify that issue.

Lots of poor performances. Costelloe is having a mare. There have been runs off him and he has checked and played it safe. Worse than Dwight ever played. Bastien made two in the first twenty. Just needed round a corner ball.

Benson needs to toughen up. Can't be forced out of a game so easily. Ref not giving anything for Barnes even though he is being fouled. Zero point to playing him, refs are just anti-Barnes by default. Roberts keeps giving the ball away. I'd be bollocking them at half time. Watford are awful.

Ref is getting a low score. Two fouls on Benson which should have been a yellow. Missed pen. Foul on Taylor in build up to the goal.

Would like to see Benson being a bit more adventurous. No problem losing the ball in trying to beat a full back in the final third but if he's just gonna roll it back to Roberts every time you might as well have kept Lennon. Never an easy ball to play it in behind the full back and it maybe comes off once a game.

It's ok to criticise that half while supporting the project. Overall I'm excited by the prospect of this squad, but it will take time and we still need a striker.

Taylor was completely sold a raw deal by Maatsen being so far forward and Bellis going missing.
Taylor, Roberts and Brownhill are the only ones to emerge from that half with credit and for a reason.

His positioning is atrocious. He's constantly flapping around, tracks the wrong way for the goal, he's sliced multiple passes to opposition forwards.
He's going to cost us far more goals than he will contribute with buildup. He is no Allison or Ederson.

Bound to be games like this throughout the season, and this is most definitely our toughest test so far.

I did wonder what the reaction would be if things showed signs of going south, and now we have the answer.

Still 45 mins to turn this match around yet, so no need to press the panic button just yet.

I wouldn’t say people are pressing the panic button. The thing that worries me is that without signings up top we will struggle to score, and games are coming thick and fast.

This is quite an eye opener. Barnes is so Isolated it's ridiculous. All the possession is utterly meaningless when the passing is so pedestrian. The pressing is none existent. We look utterly toothless. Mary Poppins would snarl at this
