Early Thoughts On Muric?
Re: Early Thoughts On Muric?
Solid article from Andy Jones today on Muric.
https://theathletic.com/3618356/2022/09 ... net-muric/
- 4th in the goals prevented table (going off xG) in the league
- most passes and most completed passes by any keeper (no surprise)
'In the first five games, he attempted 23 passes into the opposition half and six of them got to the final third. Compare that to the second five, where his numbers for those same two metrics were 41 and 22.'
That is quite interesting and shows how he learned from the Blackpool game. Also mentions how he helped create the Wigan and West Brom goals with the long passes to Tella.

A good article but bizarre making any judgement based on expected goals unless I'm misunderstanding the point. It seems meaningless.RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 8:51 amSolid article from Andy Jones today on Muric.

Re: Early Thoughts On Muric?
The point is how many 'expected goals' a keeper has prevented and it's commonly used in the data world of football.
It generally means a keeper is saving 'better quality' chances.
Pope was always very high on the list in the PL.

Re: Early Thoughts On Muric?
Seems odd to me ranking keepers by comparing expected goals to actual goals because the former isn't a real and factual thing. I just don't get it but, again, I'm perhaps misunderstanding - if I'm not then it's pointless.

Yes, I get that,
they might as well say "good saves" as opposed to easy ones.
However, the over-all stats suggest that Muric is doing well at this level, which is really all that matters.

That’s encouraging.
