Early Thoughts On Muric?

Post by ElectroClaret » Fri Aug 12, 2022 10:53 pm

Seen him three times now. Looks like he has it in him to come charging out of goal and whack
the ball/opposition players equally. Was lucky it went for him on at least one occasion tonight.
Shot-stopping wise, not really been tested yet.

Maybe just needs time to settle.

I still don’t know how good of a shot stopper he is but his distribution is extremely suspect.

I'm sure his distribution will cost us a goal or two over the season but on the flipside i think it will help us facilitate more goals for us than aimless punts upfield. I think it'll work out overall even if it gives us a few hearts in mouths moments

If I gave my unfiltered thoughts I'd be pilloried by a few posters so I'll stick to this:
I've been a little alarmed at times so far but he's certainly different to what we're used to.

Think Boden said tonight, 3 games no saves.

2 conceded. I’d take that

His distribution is very good. He often takes three or four opposition players immediately out of the game. So many of our good moments in these three games have stemmed from Muric.

Is he going to give the ball away sometimes? Yes.

Are we going to concede some silly looking goals? Almost certainly yes.

But will we benefit more often than not? Yes.

I know there are more than two goalkeepers in the world but if you offered me Muric or BPF, then it's Muric every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Too early.

Good point is he is confident in passing.

Not so good, guaranteed to make mistakes...can we afford them?

Not saved anything, so hard to tell if he actually a goalkeeper!

The goal for Watford showed him moving in the opposite direction to the side foot. Weird.

If Kompany is telling him to try and thread balls through the eyes of needles, then it's on him.

But like above, he hasn't really been called into action in the saving department, so something is being done right.
When he's chipping balls over two opposition players to the feet of one of our own, it's both beautiful and absolutely terrifying.

I need time to accept the risk with Muric - after a lifetime of watching Burnley goalkeepers do the simple thing, this is a tough adjustment for me (particularly when he messes it up). Possibly more of a ‘me’ issue than him.

True judgment will come when we see what his actual goalkeeping is up to. As yet, the defence have been that solid that we haven’t a clue on that front.

Not good for the ticker , clearly had confidence to play with the ball at his feet , a bit more composure and knowing when to actually get rid of it and then we just need to see if he can make a save or not then😂

We've only faced two shots on target this season, and Muric can't be blamed for letting either in. I cringe at the moment when posters ask if he's saved a shot yet.

Distribution is a huge change for all of us to get used to, but I generally I'm on board with it. A couple of times tonight he made a mistake trying something, which will happen when he's asked to play like this.

Huge kahonas. Even though he made that early mistake, it didn;t seem to bother him one bity, he was solid for the rest of the game, although he didn' have a lot to do. I can see why he is critical to Kompany's game plan.

Two mistakes I think. If you look at how many times he passed the ball. That’s probably 5% to 10%.

The rest were very good. Worst one was the pass down the middle when he was under pressure when he had THB available to his right. Hopefully that will come with time.

Otherwise brilliant, I thought.

Complete opposite to Pope, Goalkeeping - No. Sweeper - yes.

Hopefully we don't face to many shots on goal

You can’t rate Muric on saves because he hasn’t made one and the 2 goals conceded wouldn’t have been save by Pope. This is great news that 3 games in our keeper hasn’t needed to make a save.

You can only rate Muric on what he has brought to the side and that is more risk v reward style keeping. Let’s hope he continues to have no saves to make.

Exactly this, his distribution is top top notch, 1 mistake tonight, maybe 2 if you count the pass to Cullen who was tired and nearly lost it.

I'm not sure what game people are watching who are saying he can't pass, he was playing outside of the foot passes against Huddersfield. That first time Beckham whipped switch of play to Maatsen was ridiculously good and the 2nd time he's done it.

We've had midfielders play for us who couldn't pass the ball as well as he can. Nothing wrong at all with his distribution, it's very good.

How can you say that with any confidence or evidence? He could be the best/worst goalkeeper in the world, there's no evidence to suggest either in a BFC shirt.

It's weird, people are forgetting the 100 times he found his teammate and focusing on the 1 or 2 times he didn't.

I'd resist the urge to compare him to Pope, who is a world class shot stopper beyond comparison in this league, mainly because the job Muric has this season is about 90% sweeper, 10% keeper. In possession he's basically an outfield defender as far as build up is concerned, and not a goalkeeper. There was even a point in the first half where THB took a goal kick, with the intention of inviting Watford to push their midfield and back line up the pitch to give us space to run into being the only reasons I can think why we'd do that. So If our gameplan is to invite the opposition to play high in order to give us more control how we move through the lines and more space to play into, having a keeper who drops the ball in the centre circle from 80ft in the air like food dropped into a pool of piranhas goes totally against this. His value to us is in how his availability for a pass and his passing accuracy contributes to our dominating possession, and there are early signs that this is working — over two games we've barely conceded any chances at all because the opposition never get hold of the ball.

Clueless, how is it his fault he's yet to make a save?

That's a positive for him if anything, he's contributing towards the team keeping the ball and starving the opposition of any chances to shoot on goal.

Undecided yet.

On passing he's a 9/10 - almost always finds a man.

Reading the danger generally very alert.

Shout stopping - saved a few tame efforts and not really had a chance with the 2 conceded.

Verdict - think he will come good and be a massive asset, but still rees dryly days.

He's faced two shots on target this season. I don't think anyone could have expected him to save either one. It's a testament to how well we've defended and kept the ball away from goal.

You're right that we can't judge his shot stopping abilities yet.

Did I say that? NO. Another looking for confrontation because they read what they want instead of what is written.
What about this then?

''My wariness of him surrounds his wandering and rash thought process.''

Every time he's left his area, he's won the ball so it's proven to be the right decision. Twice against Luton when he left the area he just got to the ball and stopped the striker from being clean through 1v1. Tonight he did the same with the sliding tackle.

He's faced two shots on target this season. I don't think anyone could have expected him to save either one. It's a testament to how well we've defended and kept the ball away from goal.

You're right that we can't judge his shot stopping abilities yet.
Of which Muric has been a huge part of
