Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
I know this is an away fixture so not on us to stream but I have emailed a few addresses off the club website to find out if there is any intention of streaming our home fixtures this season. No response as yet.

Don't think Reading are streaming today, but they are playing at the stadium with free entry. Not heard anything re us streaming the games this season but it proved to be a bit hit and miss last season.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
I think they did stream every PL2* game they could last year, it was only where the game clashed with a senior PL (of any club, not just Burnley) fixture that they weren't allowed to stream them - a bit like the 3pm blackout. Whether that rule would apply now we're in the PDL I don't know.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 11:31 amDon't think Reading are streaming today, but they are playing at the stadium with free entry. *cup fixtures were more hit and miss
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Mark Helm captaining the side which is strange given Richardson is playing.

2 down after 21 mins
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
2 down after 20 mins - didn't clear a set piece and it was played into the 6 yard box behind a static defence but Waller should probably have done better with it IMO.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Nearly pulled one back. Really slick move started with a switch by Helm, laid off to Bauress who nutmegged his man before some nice two touch football from Richardson and Tucker played Armstrong into the area but his cutback was cleared by the keeper
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Tucker coming close with another freekick, not sure if it was a misshit cross or a well disguised shot
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Been all Burnley since the second goal

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Missed all this, but I'll give it a go for the second half
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Richardson nearly scores on the stroke of half time after, once again, beating 2 or 3 Reading players who just can't get the ball off him before drawing a save with a left foot shot from inside the area.
Half time 2-0 to Reading.
Takeaways from the first half:
- You can tell which players have been training with the first team, they're trying to play similar to VK's approach whilst the others look very much like they're playing the same style as the U23s last season. It's a weird half and half mix which is holding back the side whereas Reading are more of a unit.
- Richardson is clearly a class above this level. I really think we're missing a trick not having him in the senior side, especially given the lack of strikers at the moment. His movement, close control and balance... you just think he'd be what we need in that frontline. Only thing he lacks is aerial presence but that's not really an issue now.
- Of the "new" U21s Bauress looks the pick, you'd never guess he's only 16 as he does not look out of place next to Helm who is 4 years his senior.
- Tucker and Helm have both looked decent too.

You can go back to the beginning of the stream on YouTube if you don't care about watching "live".ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:51 pmMissed all this, but I'll give it a go for the second half

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Interesting regarding Richardson. Scored in his last two as well. Though I wonder why CT thought he wasn’t close to the senior team after watching him against Charlton?
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Haha, fair enough. We've played well really apart from the opening 20 mins. Waller arguably at fault for both goals.

Good summery above on Lewis.
Still thought myself he was playing himself back to fitness?
He's surely got to be involved with the first team soon though.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Bauress has been playing regular u18 football for the last two seasons. We'd a 14/15 year old in the u18s on Saturday who we were told to keep an eye on - he's Vernon Masara.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
I'd hope so based on how he's playing. If not then I really think we need to get him loaned out to League 1 or 2 for senior minutes - playing below his ability can only be holding him back.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:59 pmGood summery above on Lewis.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Lots of injuries, needs to get himself fully fit I would think first.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Haven't seen any U18 games but Masara's name has been pretty prominent in the text commentary on Twitter so it seemed like he was playing well.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:00 pmBauress has been playing regular u18 football for the last two seasons. Agree with Mattster, he played well first half.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:02 pmLots of injuries, needs to get himself fully fit I would think first.
Reqlly hope injuries dont hamper his development. He is someone who can make top grade.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Nearly gifted them another goal from kickoff with Waller and Ward leaving the ball for each other. Fortunately Waller made a great save.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Ward looking really hurt there after the striker he was challenging in the air did a "Harry Kane" on him, should be booked for that at least - very dangerous.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Tucker hits the bar from a freekick after Richardson won a freekick (again after beating a few Reading players and still having the ball when the ref blew up).

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Ref wasnt that friendly with us 1st half
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Reading could be 3 up, but a header from 3 yards out bounces over the bar.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
And should have played on at that freekick Tucker hit the bar from, Richardson was probably in on goal.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
After Reading can't clear a setpiece Ward does really well to burst into the box down the left and cutback across goal, the keeper gets a hand to it but unfortunately for us doesn't divert it to a Burnley player.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Deane and Hugill on for McCullough and Bauress.

Been a decent watch, first hour.
Both sides have played some good footy in splurges.

Richardson has continued to stand out, just missing a goal today.
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Coppack on for Ratchford
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Looks like a handball from their number 6 there but no penalty given.

Familiar theme - lots of possession but poor final ball/decisions against taller, stronger, faster opposition
Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Proper soft yellow to Ward having let loads go from Reading all game.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Nothing to really threaten them in a sustained way, as a team, result wise.
But some decent footy.
Did look like handball pen claim earlier though.

Finishes 2-0. Not many clear cut chances but don't feel that 2-0 is a representative scoreline.

Very true, however, at whatever level the game is played, the only important figures are Reading 2 Burnley 0 and nothing else is relevant.

At this level it's more about development though, think there were some impressive performances in there. You could tell the team was a bit disjointed with a good number of those players spending the vast majority of preseason with the senior team whilst others were with the U18s. I prefer to look at the positives though, certainly some good individuals in there who have a chance at progressing - just hope we get to stream more games so I can see how they develop this season.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:02 pmVery true, however, at whatever level the game is played, the only important figures are Reading 2 Burnley 0 and nothing else is relevant.

Re: ARTICLE: First away game of the season for under-21s
Mattster, I am in full agreement about the development etc., however, my response still stands that it is the score which will matter, along with all the other results, at the end of the season.Mattster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:08 pmAt this level it's more about development though, think there were some impressive performances in there. You play well, you don't win, you don't get points and it does absolutely nothing for the confidence of the players involved unless the coach can pick them up and from the evidence of the body language of a number of our players at the end, he will have to get cracking with them.
