To fit this system, at this level - of all the players I've seen at Burnley in the last 30 years, it's without a doubt Danny Ings in his 2014/15 vintage. He's just exactly what this team and set up needs up top to make it click.

John Spicer, taylor made for sweeper keeper role
Re: Re-sign one past player for the current setup…who would it be?
Definitely Charlie Austin. He'd bag about 30 a season with how we're setting up.

Re: Re-sign one past player for the current setup…who would it be?
Obviously said half in jest but aside from somebody with a goalscoring ability I do think a couple of the qualities we're falling short of are psychological.
We could do with an touch more aggression, a good dose of steeliness and a psychopathological refusal to be beaten. Not just 'beaten' in terms of losing the match but in terms of every player wanting not to be beaten to the ball, in the air, for a challenge etc.
The players at fault for the goal conceded against Luton would have benefited from a Kevin Ball character in the half time dressing room to give them the benefit of his wisdom. A healthy dose of fear might help them do better next time.
We're very close to being exceptionally good, but 'very close' is the same as 'not good enough'.

Ray Pointer or Danny Ings
Players from the Past Most Likely to be signed by the current regime: Jean-Louis Valois or Marco Gentile.

Another vote for Ings, sadly no chance of it happening now he's flourishing at Villa.
Highlights just how good he was, and indeed still is that so many are opting for him.
