La Vuelta..

Post by Tricky Trevor » Tue Aug 16, 2022 2:58 pm

Starts this Friday evening in Utrecht with a team TT.
Roglic declared fit and going for his fourth successive victory.
You’ll do well to find a better app than this, if you want one. I know it says Tour de France but it rotates all the grand tours.

To be honest, I prefer the Vuelta to the TdF.

Was hoping to catch some of the racing again this year, however the Vuelta goes through Estepona on the 1st Sept and we don't arrive until the day after.

I can confirm that Roglic is definitely on the way to Utrecht. He’s on the Amsterdam flight from Nice airport shortly, having just been to Monaco.

Here he is (two minutes ago) in our cafe, sporting his Jumbo regalia at Nice airport. Credit to Mrs jdrobbo for spotting his Greatness, first 😂

So do I generally but this year’s TDF was exceptionally good.

Just been doing a bit of swotting up ready for the first stage today. Didn't realise Alaphilippe was riding, good to see him back after his bad crash earlier in the year.

Primoz Roglic to Win Vuelta a Espana, Remco Evenpoel Top 3 Finish & Pavel Sivakov Top 10 Finish 14/1

I know nothing about cycling but was told this was worth a go. Total lack of knowledge probably means I have just lost £10 :D

I’m not sure Evenpoel is a grand tour rider yet. Top 3 is a stretch. I’ll wait to be proved wrong.
I did say G. Would never win the TdF.

Difficult to see past Roglic, backed up superbly by Sepp Kuss.

Brilliant to Alaphillipe back: he bring a great vibe to the Grand Tours.

Likewise, Carapaz. This will just be a ride through from him.

Always like Nairo Quintana and I suspect that he and Miguel Angel Lopez would be decent shouts for a podium finish if their teams click.

Quintana has dropped out to defend himself following his disqualification from the TdF.

My top 3 prediction is

Remco
Jai Hindley
Carapaz

I'll be shouting for Alaphilippe all the way around

Off thread.
Congrats to Tom Pidcock on winning the European Championship MB in Munich. The medal will sit nicely with his Olympic Gold in the same event.

Back to back sprintastic days for Sam Bennett.
Leaderboard dominated by Jumbo Visma after their TTT success. Ineos guys only 13secs off with Quick Step boys at 14 secs.
Rest day tomorrow for the travelling day to Espana.

No drought in Galicia today. Great stage with surprises.
No spoiler from me but on Quest at 7pm and Eurosport from 8pm. Enjoy.

The young lad evenepoel may have finally found his form at the right time He could take some catching. Didn’t back him for overall drat after jumbo massacred me all summer. Sneaky one on him for the green jersey though at 34-1 which is now tumbling - probably a ludicrous one but not many sprinter days left so we live in hope.

Now we’ve moved on a day I can say how amazed I was that yesterdays stage winner, the Australian Jay Vine, got his pro contract via becoming the World Champion e-cyclist on Zwift. E-games are bringing new stars forward that just need a break.

Seen this morning I have been refunded my £10 bet, had no idea why just says it is void.

Looked into the race, 3 riders - 1 crashed and 1 caught covid :D

Congrats to Evenpoel on his superb victory. He outperformed my expectation of him but did look ropey a couple of times in the final week.
Overall I enjoyed it but am becoming a little disappointed in the current fad for getting an early lead an then just marking out your immediate opponents. It is giving the breakaway more chances but puts no pressure on the leader at all. It probably needs the rider in 4th overall to get his team to shake things up.

The challenge from behind was fairly weak though. Roglic and Jumbo may have pushed Evenepoel until he crashed. Carapaz wasn't a GC threat and other leaders weren't in the GC race. Mas gave it a go in the latter stages but he was on his own really.
