Car Key Fobs Not Working - Dodgy?

Post by TheFamilyCat » Tue Aug 16, 2022 6:40 pm

When I left home to come to Burnley tonight my key fob didn't work. I tried the spare but no joy. Changed the batteries in both but still nothing so had to use the key.

Got to Burnley and the fob locked the door no problem.

My wife has just messaged me, her fob for her car has stopped working.

Is there a simple explanation for this (other than aliens) or is it a sign of something dodgy? The wife's a worrier so is fearing the worst.

Thieves can steal cars by electronic intervention of the keyfob signal, but not sure if this would disable your fob.

Both cars are Vauxhall's - different models, if that's relevant.

There is probably a pairing reset you can do. Try googling.

If they are Vauxhall’s why not let them deal with it instead of you?

If they are both failing to work at home, maybe it's a case of someone nearby using an electronic device that interferes with the signal. I have heard of this being posible but never experiences it myself.

A few years ago, myself and several neighbours noticed our cars remote locking had stopped working.
20 minutes later they were all fine.
No idea why, and it's not happened since.

Does your fob come apart to give you a MAGIC key to get into your car incase it doesnt work? Mine does

Solar Panel inverters have been known to cause this problem.

Something locally is interfering with the fob signal, it happens very occasionally, as per link below.
I do know someone else who had the issue a couple of times at one address but not after they moved house.
They have a vauxhall astra.
