Jóhann Gudmundsson
When was the last time he played? I have seen comments on here about him having nearly a year off since playing his last game. But who know's if that is true or not. Does anyone really know what his injury is or was? Is he just waiting to get match fit?

Re: Jóhann Gudmundsson
7 minutes on Jan 23 away at Arsenal
His last full game was on 30th Dec at ManU
FotMob has it down as a “leg injury” and expected return late August

A fit JBG in this side would be absolutely perfect and I reckon could be one of the last pieces of the jigsaw. Unfortunately the lad can’t stay fit so it is improbable tbh.

Re: Jóhann Gudmundsson
Has he said anything about retiring from International football. Or if picked would he still play for Iceland. If he hasn't retired from international duty I think he should seriously consider it. He will probably be another who will run his contract down and just walk away from us. When is his contract up?
If we tried to sell him I would imagine we wouldn't get much for him. Probably the best for all concerned is, if he moved on and all that happened was his wage was taken off our books.

Walk away? More likely he’ll limp away

He’s fit but they are being cautious with him because of the last couple of years. When asked this week, VK said he was getting closer.

His contracts up June 2023, which TBH is good for us as we can then get his wage off the books.Yorkshirelad wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:26 amHas he said anything about retiring from International football. Shame about his injuries, and he's never been the same player since that Lincoln cup tie, however he's now 31, turning 32 in October, so doesn't really fit the ethos of developing youth.
I hope he can get fit and make some impact to our cause, but given his recent injury record it would be folly to rely on him playing regularly.

He'd be a very welcome addition under this new system if there's any way of keeping him fit

I mean, if he is fit then he really ought to be playing given the lack of impact our wide players have made collectively so far. We know JBG has issues getting/staying fit but if - yeah, big if, I know - if he's fit he will be a proper asset for us this season, either wide or in attacking midfield.

I agree but I do feel swinging the ball in the box, no matter how good isn't going to bring us much at the minute as there's nobody there, they'd all be within 10 metres of himJambo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:09 amI mean, if he is fit then he really ought to be playing given the lack of impact our wide players have made collectively so far. Re: Jóhann Gudmundsson
Maybe, but Jay is pretty good in the air isn't he? I'd back him to score a few headers if we got decent deliveries into the box. JBG is also a threat with shooting from distance, which nobody in the team bar Maatsen seems to even try.

Re: Jóhann Gudmundsson
I think once Nathan Tella gets into his stride, we'll have a lot more crosses being delivered into the box and pretty accurately too.
Agree we need more options to get on the end of those crosses though, in the shape of another striker.

Kicked out of the game by a team of thugs. Never really recovered from it.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 10:22 amHis contracts up June 2023, which TBH is good for us as we can then get his wage off the books.
