Players Real Names and Names on Shirts

Post by Hipper » Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:25 am

On the BBC match report, we have in the 'Line-ups', '22 da Silva', and '17 Manuel' yet in the text da Silva is called Vitinho and of course Manuel is Benson and these are the names on their shirts.

Of course there is nothing new in this. There are many examples such as Van Dijk having 'Virgil' on his shirt and Dele Alli having 'Dele'. It is however confusing (to me anyway) so if a player wishes to use a certain name on his shirt then that is how he should be referred to.

Players who have their first name (as opposed to surname) on their shirts deserve even more vigorous horsewhipping than those who pull their socks up above their knees.

One in the Watford team too last Friday, listed by the media as Pérez Martínez but plays as Mario Gaspar.

For the record:

Vitinho’s full name is Victor Alexander da Silva and Manuel Benson’s is Manuel Benson Hedilazio.

Speaking of which, how high are Muric's socks?
It's either that or he's wearing leggings (can't tell from up in the top tiers)
