Stats so far

Post by NewClaret » Wed Aug 17, 2022 5:22 pm

Anyone know how to get stats for the season so far by club?

Interested in things like avg possession, xg, chances created, shots on target, etc.

Keep hearing that there’s been no stand out team, we’ll be finishing bottom half, etc. so would just like to see if the stats back that up.

https://www.infogol.net/en/leagues/engl ... 022-23/439

This site is decent for xG etc. You can search the individual games and it will give you an ‘xG map’.

I’ve linked you to a league table which shows a lot of the x stuff then also has an ‘expected position’ and ‘forecast position’.

Interestingly our expected position is 1st and forecast is 2nd.

It tells you at the bottom how they calculate it.

Looking at some of their stats for the squad I think the height weight stuff is a bit ropey
Maatsen 58 kg!! That's 9st and bits 😂

Small sample size but the stats are backing us so far. We just need to find that edge.

Not seen any of their games this season, but interestingly b4astards’ stats suggest they should be 19th.

Definitely supports the more positive fans that the domination is there, even the chances created are there, we just need to get the first goal and we’ll coast through games.

The stats look really good. Of course we need to put the ball in the net and win some games but I could see more reason for worry if the stats weren't as good. We're doing a lot things very well. We'll be reyt.

It shows how unpredictable football is in that stats can say all they do but only thing that matters is actual goals.

I've only seen their goals but it looks like they have players who can shoot. Some well taken goals for them so far.

It's a very small sample size at the moment, 3 or 4 games. The algorithm can't be expected to be that accurate or precise with such a small data set.
2 of our chances go in and we're top of the league.

The point is that it's a better indicator of team strength and predictor of final finishing positions than the current league table.

That graphic posted above is insane. You're never going to have 55% in the opposition box, even if you're peak Barcelona, so to dominate every area bar the penalty area and the contested D box shows the control we have in games. Said on the possession cup thread that we're dominating every inch of the pitch except the boxes. Made that as an intuitive statement, but seeing it laid out compared to the rest of the league is a thing to behold. We're so close to being able to terrorise this league.

Also, Blackburn conceded more shots on target (7) against Reading tonight than we have all season (6). We're so close to turning our performances into points.

I meant that at the moment bits of luck and worldies etc increase the chances of the table not marrying up with the algorithm. Give it 10 matches and it will probably be quite close.

Brilliant thread this folks... and only a bit of niggling between us. Looks like Big Vinny knows what he is doing. This side is going to be amazing. I watched that lot down the road in a bar on hols tonight, and honestly reckon we would smash them all over Turf Moor or Ewood. So so so much better than them.

Look at ours last year. Wow, really not good. Before everyone starts I am and always will be a huge Dyche enthusiast.
