Norwich v Millwall

Post by Vegas Claret » Fri Aug 19, 2022 8:29 pm

Frantic game so far but 0-0. Must admit, I can see why Kompany likes possession and trying to build 'moves' - most other games seem like unorganised chaos

I think if we played at the tempo Norwich are playing with we would batter most teams

Does anybody know why Millwall are playing in red when their normal strip would not cause any colour clash?

Josh Sargent proving the huge gap between prem and championship here.

Absolutely horrendous footballer last year looks class here…

Sergeant gets away with 3 or 4 barges to score. Barnes was getting pulled for every one of them at Watford.
I don’t like the barge in the back but I could get used to it if they would just be consistent.
Robert Jones with the whistle so, as we know, he makes it up as it goes along.

It looked to me like the Millwall players were challenging the ball as well. Is there anything in the rules to say that if two players challenge for the same ball, it must be a foul by the one who won it?

The rules are quite clear if Barnes uses his strength to make a fair and legal challenge, but the other player goes to ground it is definitely a free kick for an offence caused by Barnes.

Meanwhile.... (caveat - I know on occassion he goes down too easily) If Ashley Barnes gets taken out similar to an All Blacks challenge against the British and Irish Lions that is completely acceptable as Barnes plays for Burnley. Very simple rule tbf.

Agreed. It's one thing that annoys me nowadays about refs/pundits - if two players challenge for a ball and one goes down it must be either a dive or a foul. It used to happen many ties in a game that people went down in challenges and nothing was given- just an honest clash- get on with the game.

Norwich now getting up to speed in the Champ again, and they'll be in contention come the business end of the season no doubt.
