On a similar point, why on earth are we bombarded with the phrase “We are the Longside” on LED boards all around the ground including, most laughably of all, on the Bob Lord Stand?

Does someone need to explain to Pace and Company what the Longside actually was?

Simple explanation and the grammar is in front of you. In this instance “The Longside” is a proper noun, designated by the pronoun. The song does not say “this is the Longside.”

Fast forward to today when it’s the CFS crowd that actually sing it, it is not inferred that it is reserved only for them, perhaps with a sense of nostalgia for not actually standing on it as well as “being it” and at the exclusion of all other sides of the ground

I’m not offended personally , it’s just a really sad and pathetic song. I notice the defence of this one particular song is “let’s just sit in silence then and forget atmosphere”. Don’t recall saying that, i couldn’t have been more specific. As Rileybobs said, is silence the alternative? I also said there can’t be expected to be no bad language, I’m not that naive. Man Utd are the bees knees when it comes to new songs.

They have the best away fans in the country easily.

They’re version of ‘Bertie Mee said to Matt Busby’ is class and puts ours to shame, sing slow and can actually understand the words.

Pete Boyle is the man behind many of their songs (often to be found enjoying a pint in The Peveril of the Peak) - the songs are nearly always original, they’re really the leaders in English football when it comes to original, decent, catchy chants.

Funnily enough I remember that being a Liverpool song - Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly - have you heard of the North Bank Highbury - Shanks said no I don't think so but I've heard of the Liverpool FC.

The Utd song doesn't even rhyme and the Liverpool version now quoted something about Anny Field Aggro, which I can't recall.

In my Lancashire home is also a Liverpool song from the famous folk song about having a cathedral to spare.

In terms of the "Oh Burnerlee is wonderful" song I recall the thrill of singing something unacceptable but that has long gone and it is a bit toe curling now. It comes to us all in the end - we become embarrassed by the people we were. Well quite a few of us anyway.

Yeah, there isn’t a sliding scale of morality in this situation. You have most certainly sang our flagship song, I dare say almost all in this thread will have recently. Highly offensive, highly unfair to sing that at a ground and a place with high teenage pregnancy rates, high rates of absent parents, high levels of those in care. So unless you recognise that all of them should be banned, or none of them should you are a hypocrite and we shouldn’t discourse any further.

I seem to remember the Kop singing it back in the 70s. I think the song originated when Liverpool and Arsenal were big rivals in the early 70s just prior to the emergence of Revie's Leeds United.

Bertie Mee was the manager of Arsenal and Shank's Liverpool's manager albeit Busby and Mee were managers at the same time in the 60s.
