We could do a lot worse than establish this as 'our' theme song instead of the awful/dreary 'No Nay Never'

That original thread was peak ClaretsMad, it even had a MIDI-sounding tune to go with it.

Yes, we should get this going as a new anthem. With a repeat at the end of. The whole world smiles with you in Claret and Blue...

Would be ACE if we could have this as our club song and have it played before games.

Best ever song for celebrating a goal and simultaneously taking the p1ss out of the opposition fans.
The little two-hand waves along with 'Na na, Na na na' at the end made the ultimate signing-off.
I too would love to hear it again.
And meanwhile that first pic does say it all!

If we could get the club to play that and simultaneously show a montage of smiling players (and fans too) on the big screen it would be fantastic imo.

No nay never is pretty dull and it's not exactly euphoric. Best chant just after goal celebrations had just settled down was um pa pa um pa pa um pa pa um pa pa. Bring that one back.

Their prematch music certainly backfired in getting the home support going
It was one big party in the away end though

I wouldn't call it weird, it really fired up the Burnley fans. Something for everyone.

Always liked that song, it reminds me of watching the team in Caspers years (I’d walk a million miles to see one of your goals oh Frankie). Haven’t PNE tried to adopt it though ?
On another … Our Chim Chiminey song could now be adapted to “Samuel Bastiens in Claret and Blue”

Didn’t Charlie Chaplin write this song, if memory serves me well?
Remember it well being belted out back in the old Division One days

I wouldn't mind this as our anthem. But I've always thought "The Air That I Breathe" cover by The Hollies would be better

Charlie Chaplin wrote 'Smile' with Nat King Cole's version probably the most famous.
He also wrote 'This Is My Song' sung by Petula Clark amongst others.

Wasn’t there a poster on the old forum whose username was Oh When You’re Smiling? Used to mention this song regularly.
It was funny when it came on the Wigan PA system and some of our fans automatically joined it. Must be one of their songs now, but I think it was a Claret staple in the 70’s/80’s?

Please tell me you meant Um Bah Bah (with a B, as in the Malcolm McClaren 1983 hit, Double Dutch from where the chant originated) and not Oom-Pah-Pah (as in The Music Man)?

I'm aware of the songs origin thanks. I just typed it without thinking about it too much. Anyway it sounds like um pa pa when sung at a faster pace by football fans

Ha ha yes, our little baby.
In our youthful innocence, we sang a 'clean' version.
For sometime now it's been the b*stardized version and it's crap.
Now, when you're smiling.......
Alright Ian.

Not really. To be honest I’ve often interchanged Oliver and The Music Man when people say Um Pa Pa. I felt one example was enough. They’re both wrong in terms of what the chant should be, regardless.

It’s the young ones. It used to sound a lot more like manly and deeper back on the Longside.

I know what you mean bud. When they started singing the ‘new’ version the whole point of the song was lost in translation.

The smiling song required the appropriate waving of hands at the na-na-na bit.

At a similar point of time we came across a more obscure song.about ex Claret Stevie Taylor. It may have been whilst playing for PNE but I recall singing it whilst he was at Burnley and some considerable years after.
It went:
'Stevie Taylor, sucks a horses p*nis, eats chicken gizzards and wears a floppy hat.
He lives in a museum, where everyone can see him.
Stevie Taylor is a horses t**t.'
Bizarre.
