Muric 8 - some good saves and an assist for the superb ball to Tella

Roberts 4 - passing was woeful at times and then he has single handedly cost us 2 vital points at the death
Harwood-Bellis 7
Taylor 9 - outstanding
Maatsen 5 - was better than Roberts and that’s as far as I’ll go

Vitinho 6
Cork 5 - did well but fell off a cliff towards the end
Cullen 7
Brownhill 6

Tella 8 - should not have come off.
Rodriguez -7

Churlinov -7 should have scored and should have teed JBG up. But I like this guy. I think he’s a threat and I’d like to see him pushing for a starting spot.
Gudmundsson 6
Bastien - 6
Barnes 6 - I thought he did alright. Yes he missed the chance at the end but the control and flick to get in position was excellent. And unlike some - I’m not willing him to fail.

We threw it away. Game was won. How their keeper wasn’t sent off remains a mystery as was the denial for a clear penalty for us.
I’m very positive about the way it’s looking but tonight I’m annoyed that we’ve blown it when we have.

He attempted to play the ball, so it's just a booking.

Yeah bit greedy, I don't mind it though, looked a really difficult pass.
A relatively simple pass if he'd played it early, when he should have played it.

In the end he made it impossible to find JGB and played a harmless cross/shot across the goal. We could have finished it there and then.

Muric 8
Roberts 4
THB 8
Taylor 8
Maatsen 5 (Exposed time and time again as a weak defender)
Cullen 6
Cork 4 (Great player, but seriously off form tonight I'm afraid)
Brownhill 6
Vitihno 8 (Made a miles better job of left back in the second half)
Tella 8
Jayrod 8 (Absolutely superb tbh)

Churlinov 6 (fluffed his great chance for glory by stumbling and reminding me I haven't seen "Bambi" in a while)
Barnes 4 (created his chance brilliantly, but then got very giddy and totally blew it)
JBG 5
As others have said we really were poor in midfield and defence tonight and kept constantly giving the ball away needlessly and inviting pressure, particularly Cork. West Brom are clearly a physical side, but also a skillful side and on another day they'd have won at a canter with the chances we allowed them, so we have to say a point is fair enough. Having said that I'm worried about our defending, especially the full backs, which at times is non existent. Up front we still looked potent and really should have put things to bed well before the 97th minute. On that subject, yes Muric was down for a little while, but 8 f***ing minutes???? I really don't think so. The ref also missed some really bad fouls second half plus the blatant penalty for hand ball, but non of that excuses us not seeing out the final 90 seconds of the game.

From tv
Muric 8 he is improving with every game
Roberts 5 he could do nothing right tonight
THB 7 good allround performance
Taylor 7 very good, but I still feel we need more height at centre back
Maatsen 5 he is not great defensively and perhaps shouldnt have started
Vitihno 6 good in bits
Cork 5 decent first half but just gave the ball away in the second when he tired
Cullen 7 good when he got the ball, but not involved enough
Brownhill 6 looked a bit leggy
Tella 7 good when he got the service, but tired again
Jayrod 8 another good strikers performance, he was knackered when subbed.

Darko 7 looks a useful player but he over-cooked it a bit
JbG 7 did well when he got the service going forward

We looked very leggy tonight and gave the ball away far too much. It was a good point though.

Muric 8 - great pass to Tella, not the confident saves of Pope but he didn’t concede
Roberts 5 - not playing with a smile on his face
THB 7 - good blocks, daft yellow
Taylor 8 - crucial blocks, best performance of the season
Maatsen 5 - wayward passing, good driving runs but not solid enough
Tella 7 - superb outlet, lovely touch
Brownhill 6 - not up to recent standards but solid enough
Cork 6 - great 1st half but poor second maybe the booking or game schedule did for him. Should’ve been hooked for bastien before an hour
Cullen 7 - steady away
Vitinho 6 - struggles against a more competitive/physical side
Rodriguez 8 - quality footballer
Bastian 6 - ok
Churlinov 6 - needs game time. Should’ve at least tried to play in JBG
JBG 5 - not really involved
Barnes 6 - great touch, then a rotter

2 poor teams tonight who passed more to the opposition than to team members
WBA will finish near the bottom as they have no finishers
We get a point in probably our worst performance of the season
I watched on tv, didn’t look that bad to me? 3/4 of the team poor?

Muric - 8 - Unlucky again to go off injured. Was having a great game.
Roberts - 5 - Marked down for the lack of concentration at the end. Other than that he did ok against their winger.
THB - 7 - Getting better with more games, seemed to win more headers too, hopefully keeps improving.
Taylor MOM - 9 - He deserved a clean sheet, his winning of headers, blocks, getting rid when needed was best I’ve seen this season.
Maatsen - 5 - Not his usual self going forward, and his passing was very sloppy. Hopefully a one off.
Cork - 6 - Standard Cork performance up to the booking, seemed to change his game massively, and looked knackered not long after! Woulda taken him off earlier personally.
Cullen - 7 - Does the intercepting and nitty gritty very well on the edge of our box.
Vitinho - 7 - Love his versatility and his energy.
Brownhill - 7 - West Brom identified him as a danger and pretty much stopped him getting the ball and being as influential on it, usual energy which is expected of him.
Tella - 8 - Unbelievable pace, something we’ve missed for years, and his intelligence to run in behind and mix it up. Would love to sign him permanently.
J Rod - 8 - Took the pen well, very good at dropping into the hole and get us on the front foot. Game always changes when he leaves the pitch.

Churlinov - 6 - Said on the other post, eager, that’s about it. Decision making needs to improve, I feel Benson woulda done better with the 1 on 1, and probably woulda picked JBG out too. Still learning.

JBG - 6 - Didnt do much to catch the eye when came on.

Barnes - 5 - Average in terms of his performance, it’s just what’s expected of him now. Hopefully the Turkish lad turns out to be a better option off the bench.

Well, clearly a game to far for a couple of the players, a dreadful performance by one of our shining early season lights, and far too sloppy on the ball, but we got a point and defended pretty well in the main against a team who are expected to challenge despite being nowhere near our best

Muric 8 - very impressive again
Roberts 6 - defended well up the very last minute, but as others have said I think he expected THB to head it clear and was completely wrong footed when it went over his head
THB 7 - ok defensively, bit sloppy at times
Taylor 8* - really good, and he needed to be
Maatsen 4 - dreadful, gave the ball away numerous times and nowhere near his man till he was rightly hooked
Vitinhio 6 - he's a left or right back, not a winger
Cullen 7 - tidy
Cork 6 - clearly knackered and I'm surprised he wasn't taken off earlier
Brownhill 6 - quiet by the very high standards he has set
Tella 7 - ridiculous good touch and biggest threat but another who faded badly 2nd half
Jay 7 - surprised he was taken off as he led the line well and is clearly fall too good for this division

Subs
Churlinov 7 - looks a real player based on this, unlucky not to score or win a pen and looked very busy
Barnes 5 - he has to do better with that chance basically and again, falling over looking for fouls when refs can't see leg breaking challenges is more than pointless
JBG 6 - just glad he can still walk after that blatant red card challenge

[/quote]

Whilst I agree Churlinov should have done better with his couple of opportunities I have seen little from Benson to suggest he would have done better. In fact quite the opposite as his final ball and composure has let him down most of the time.

I think he brought Churlinov on last night because he is bigger and stronger than Benson and against WBA that was what was needed. I thought he did pretty well and certainly got involved. VK is seeing these lads in training too and he has said a few times already about the importance of using our squad and how punishing a schedule it can be in this league.

Although it was gutting to concede a late, late goal, on another night we could have won 3-0 or lost 5-0. Bruce always does his homework, attacking space and intercepting our too precise passing was carried out to their success. It almost worked in our favour too but resulted in poor choices or finishing. Churlinov was unlucky hitting the post but earlier needed to get his head up and play it first time.

Ashley Barnes showed great skill to create a chance but then showed why we need him nowhere near the pitch. He has gone from hero to zero and does not look like he will turn it around.

Getting a point was in reality a good result and if we aren't losing when conceding so much possession that can only be good.

Muric 7 (I’d have gone 8 if he’d finished the game)
Roberts 6 defended pretty well, until not sorting his feet out quick enough at the end but even that was just none of those things as it dropped over THB head
Matsen 5 had little help but he was poor down that side

Taylor 9

Sloppy performance lost count of the number of times we cheaply gave it away especially in the first half.
Before the game would have taken a point and still disappointed this morning that we lost 2, what was Roberts doing ?. Sunday league defending at best.

Some harsh marks on Churlinov. Looks promising, yes he should have scored but he should also have had a penalty after some decent play. He adds something a little different, bit more of a physical presence as are a bit much of a muchness when it comes to physicality.

Really like the look of him so far. Close control looks superb, he’s direct, confident and as you say doesn’t lack physicality. Excited to see him settle into the team. The shot that hit the post was a touch unlucky, the ball oddly spun away rather than inside the post. I can see him pushing to start wide right against Norwich.

He should also have seen JBG completely unmarked in the middle of the pitch.

Must admit I think some of the marks and comments on Churlinov are harsh. I think he looks like he could be a real player once he settles fully. Looked very dangerous. Unfortunately I don’t think he saw JBG until the angle had closed. Easy to say from TV but at pitch level it’s a different story all together.

Also Maatsen had a similar if not much easier chance to play Jay in that was fluffed.

Muric 8 - Very good. Glad his confidence is there. Let's hope he's not a sicknote.
Roberts 5 - Funny game for him. Good and bad. There seemed to be acres behind both fullbacks.
THB 7 - Some sloppy passes (one lead to him diving in for a yellow) but generally solid.
Taylor 8* - Thought he was superb. A wonderful challenge to save certain goal. Possibly could do better for their goal.
Maatsen 5 - Got murdered. A lovely footballer but seems to favour turning back inside when we play out.
Cullen 7 - Mostly good
Cork 6 - Not his best game. Still some great touches and interceptions but conceded possession far too easily.
Vitinho 7 - Much better one switched to fullback.
Brownhill 7 - Not as pivotal as recent games but solid enough.
Tella 7 - A couple of great touches and runs. The control showed from that Muric pass was top quality.
Rodriguez 8 - He really is a lovely footballer. Dropped off effectively and led the line superbly. Cool head for the penalty.

Churlinov 6 - Quite lively and would have been a penalty with VAR (?) but had that chance to win it.
JBG 7 - Usual steady stuff.
Barnes 6 - 2 superb touches but he'd love that shot back.
Bastien 6 - Didn't see him touch it much. Nothing stood out.

We stole a point. We got hammered in so many ways but they had no finishing quality to put us to the sword. Both fullbacks had a very bad night before the change. Having said that, we still had chances to win it outright which would have been a robbery of Brink's- Mat proportions.

That may turn out to be a very good point away from home against a favoured team. I was so close to posting on the match thread that we were destined to be champions having played so poorly and still won; alas it wasn't to be but we've still got to be pleased with how things are looking.

Isn't it great enjoying our matches and looking forward to the next game each week!
