The " Telegraph " today has an article regarding Euphemisms in popular usage, such as " passed away " for dying and Corporate speak such as, " We're implementing cost-base reductions to streamline the business in Q4 " which means " We're making a third of you all redundant two weeks before Christmas " ...

The obituary writers in the " Posh " papers, the " Times, Telegraph and Guardian " traditionally used certain phrases which were " code " to describe the deceased ...


Confirmed Bachelor, with a string of female admirers - Couldn't keep it in his trousers
Confirmed Bachelor - Gay as a maypole
He had an eye for a pretty girl - Old lech
Convivial host - Plastered most evenings
Never the most clubbable of men - Loner, Oddball
A man of forthright views - Golf Club bore
Gifted raconteur - Kept repeating the same 6 stories, driving his wife to distraction
Kept a tight ship - Scrooge
Colourful Business Career - A Crook
Underestimated his responsibilities to the Exchequer - He was convicted for Tax Fraud of some sort
Not one to suffer fools gladly - Downright rude
