Re: 1960s BFC squad photo
Well, I have to say that I'm so pleased that I went and sat in the darts room in the Roggerham Gate and looked up at that photo.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this unexpected and highly enjoyable little project!
I will post up the team sheet as I propose to print it to accompany the pub photo when I've done it.
And finally...........

Just an update on ClaretGeorgina's superb thread.........Tricky Trevor, it most certainly would be worth sharing them on here.......Were you able to make contact with CT with regard to giving your squad photos their own page on here?Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Sep 12, 2022 2:05 pmGreat spot for Dave Merrington.
I have a folder of squad photos, lots of which I’ve downloaded from here and our former home. Some scanned from programmes. Would it be worth sharing them on here. CT might like to make it a page along with ground photos?
The history of our great club is so important to so many of us, and would it not be special to uncover a team photo for each season of our existence ?.......or is that asking a bit too much.

Are there any from the early years ?.......they're the ones that fascinate me the most.
Came across a group photo recently of our very first year of existence, 1882/83. It claims to be the oldest surviving photograph of a Burnley team group.

Re: 1960s BFC squad photo
Another gem, Trevor......."arguably the finest set of players ever to represent Burnley Football Club".
Bob Kelly, middle row second from left, my Dad said he was the only Burnley player to ever come close to Jimmy Mac, so he must have been one hell of a player. Also, of course, the incomparable Tommy Boyle behind the trophy.
Sorry, can't assist you with posting the pics, but the 1882/83 one is in Ray Simpson's book "Images of Sport, Burnley Football Club 1882 - 1968".

Worth another special mention for Tommy Boyle, he captains his side to win the FA Cup in 1914 then off to fight for his country in World War One where he suffers life threatening injuries, only to return to captain his side to the League Championship in 1921......You couldn't make it up......Would make a brilliant film.

Re: 1960s BFC squad photo
I see that Bob Kelly has been given a nomination in the "Greatest Players Never To Have Played In A World Cup" thread......Justifiably so in my opinion. He was entering the twilight of his career at the time of the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930 but he played a total of 14 times for England......He really was that good, Dad said so. A naturally gifted player comparable to Jimmy Mac, and that's some compliment.

I’ve a signed postcard team photo of the 1947 team. All signed in pen and ink, except Kippax, who signed it with a biro pen, which were very rare in that era.

Hadn't realised that only two of that side still remain with us, although I knew that Trevor (our last goal hero in that final game at Man City) is going to be 86 years young on Christmas Day this year. Good health to him and to Alex too, of course.

I only caught the tail end of our 59-60 Champs with my first game being March '62. Much as I loved Mac, Pointer, Connelly and Robson they were all at the end of their careers by then so these are the guys who got me excited '65-'66. The colour photo is missing the great Ralph Coates so I've thrown the B&W one in just to include him.

Superb season was '65/'66, finished 3rd in Division One playing some fabulous football. The season that, for me, Willie Irvine really peaked, 29 sensational goals in 42 games and it could have been many more. CTID must be so proud of his Dad,Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 8:20 pmI only caught the tail end of our 59-60 Champs with my first game being March '62. I sent off to Brooke Bond with tokens from packets of PG Tips tea for the colour photo above. I'm guessing it was from 64-5 or 65-6. A gentle, more innocent age.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 8:20 pmI only caught the tail end of our 59-60 Champs with my first game being March '62. Some great stuff on this thread. Trev's squad picture above from 1965 I used to have on my wall when I first started going to watch the Clarets with my dad that season.
I have these two old postcards of the 1914 Cup winners, and scorer Bert Freeman, team pic a little different in style to Trev's one earlier.

A well deserved trophy for the Youth team, they were a thoroughly entertaining watch all through the competition. A perfectly balanced side with the electric pace of Kindon on one side and the more subtle skills of Dave Thomas on the other, with the cultured Alan West in midfield.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 12:09 pm'68 FA Youth Cup Winners.

By coincidence, Trevor, one of the opposition players on that Friday night of the second-leg Final on the Turf was a player featured on the photo you posted a couple of weeks ago of the 1972 full England squad.

Re: 1960s BFC squad photo
I found this on the internet:
Alex Elder, Andy Lochhead, Harry Thomson, Sammy Todd, Dave Merrington.
Mike Buxton, John Angus, Willie Irvine, Brian Miller, Arthur Bellamy.
Dave Thomas, Brian O'Neil, Frank Casper, Gordon Harris, Fred Smith, Les Latcham.
Odd that Thomas has the old hooped socks and what looks like a well washed shirt - note the light blue (Buxton, Todd and Merrington too!).

Still a strong looking squad going into the '67/'68 season.......Potts had signed Frank Casper just before the start of the season and in fact Frank ended his first season as leading goalscorer. We finished the season in 14th position, something we managed to do, remarkably, for four consecutive seasons. One sad note, Willie Irvine's time here was coming to an end.
