Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Going right to the top. Similar to when we had Cahill
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
If we get promoted there’s a chance we sign him permanently but with the way he’s performing I can see more than just us after him.
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
What are you basing this on??
Brilliant player but personally don't think he's anywhere near Cahill's level defensively hence why City loan him out.
We don't half get carried away when somebody puts a Burnley shirt on

I think he’ll have the best career of all the CBs I’ve seen play for Burnley. He’s superb.

Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
There’s more to being a top defender than being decent in possession.
He reads the game well when defending in a high line and clearly has excellent vision and a stellar passing range.
However he is limited in the air and doesn’t seem to have great awareness defending inside the box - also isn’t particularly blessed with pace/acceleration.
Think he’s a very good young player but I’m not sure he has all the tools it takes to be a top top player as the OP alluded to

His shin, at the death, saved us 2 points. Excellent defending but he’s a long way from Cahills’ level at that age.

Basing it on his performances so far, Cahill was at Villa, not one of the best clubs in the world!

Ridiculously good for his age. Coasts through games and his distribution is as good as any centre back I can remember.

Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Agree with OP. I see this lad going right to the very top. An England regular for sure, wherever he ends up in the top flight. Good in the air, composed when bringing the ball forward, good in the tackle and blocks as well. Plus the goal threat, as shown with the leap at Preston. Long may he be a Claret.

Great player. Can't stand the way Phil Bird pronounces his name, rolling his r's with that Blackburn twang.

He’s not anywhere near dominant enough in the air to be considered brilliant.

Doesn’t have the presence of a typically big central defender.
However he is good and I think he will get better between now and the end of the season

The passion harwood-bellis showed when full time whistle went was everything you want from a loan signing

Very very good footballer, average defender, plenty of time to reach the heights being suggested.

Average defender
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
He is a fantastic centre half, a real talent and could well be Kompany's best signing.
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Wasn’t Cahill only about 18 when he signed?

Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
He doesn't win many headers, doesn't dominate centre forwards and is susceptible to the long ball over the top. He's similar to John Stones in some ways. His defensive abilities are average in my opinion, but he's a great ball-player and that's in many ways more important in a team who dominate possession the way his parent club and ourselves do.

Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Does it really matter if he is better or not than Cahill as a youngster. I am just pleased we have him for a season, and give him a great platform to build his career. I am also grateful we have a manager now with the vision to identify a real prospect, convince him to join(when other clubs were after him), and to play him instantly rather than dick about waiting for the right opportunity to play him. For me it just shows what we missed out on for 3-4 seasons by blanking out loans. Onwards and upwards

Classic message board stuff on here. We have a great player, doing really well but some feel the need to be critical because they think he's not as good as someone we had on loan nearly 20 years ago! Why even go there?
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
He will soon enough be a Premier League player, be it with Burnley, City or another.

The lack of awareness of the context of where we are now vs where we’ve been over the last 3-4 seasons is staggering.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:13 pmI am also grateful we have a manager now with the vision to identify a real prospect, convince him to join(when other clubs were after him), and to play him instantly rather than dick about waiting for the right opportunity to play him. you must have missed his last minute intervention from the cross into the 6 yard box stopping a nailed on goal today thenCoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 8:16 pmThere’s more to being a top defender than being decent in possession.

Probably going to be a decent premier league Cb.
Some people love to over egg our talent. He’s knowhere near as good as the CBs we lost this summer.

it was and he won loads in the air today too.
Is he as good as Tarky was in the air ? No
Is he way better than Tarky was on the ball ? Massively so, it's not even close

We used to play in a system that made our central defenders and goalkeeper look very good (BTW, I'm not saying that they were not very good, but the system showcased their abilities), we have a different way of playing now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:27 pmProbably going to be a decent premier league Cb.

I believe it 100%, there's a reason he's captained at every single England level and plays for Man City. Not sure he'll end up at City in the long run mind youNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:31 pmYou can’t seriously believe he is massively better than Tarks on the ball?

Right now I am not convinced he is good enough for that league. I think he would get physically bullied. He will bulk out as he gets older.

A blade of grass is a blade of grass, he could find someones feet in a farmers field - the physicality is a completely different topic (I agree with you on that)Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:37 pmHe’s good on the ball but he’s got a long way to go to be able to do what he is doing now in the premier league.

Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
I know what you’re alluding to but I don’t necessarily agree with that entirely - you’ve still gotta be able to be on the ball for 90 minutes constantly blocking and putting yourself on the line with how we defended in some of our games.. lesser defenders simply wouldn’t have been able to play at the level that Tarks & Mee did for all them years.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:34 pmWe used to play in a system that made our central defenders and goalkeeper look very good (BTW, I'm not saying that they were not very good, but the system showcased their abilities), we have a different way of playing now.
THB is a great young prospect and I’m excited to see his growth, I’m just gonna try and remain objective rather than wax lyrical because we’ve won and we’re all in a good mood
Re: Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Hard to say as Tarks played under Dyche’s instructions but not sure he’d be capable of the line breaking passes he plays, they are a thing of beautyNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:31 pmYou can’t seriously believe he is massively better than Tarks on the ball?

Completely different league.
The championship has never been this bad before, the step up is massive. If he can do it the prem I would agree. But right now I can’t see him doing it at that level

Yeah right now he is where he should be at the age of 20 and the right club to develop at. But he’s already got PL eyes watching him due to performances according to Nixon.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:42 pmCompletely different league.

We’re conceding sloppy goals, our defenders have to take some of the criticism for that, no?
Off the top of my head, he was poor defensively against Hull dealing with their targetmen & balls over the top and also Blackpool (yes I know he played some amazing balls over the top to Tella) but also lost his man inside the box for their 2nd.
Still only young and I’m sure he’ll continue to progress but the premise of the OP was that he’ll go to the very top, which, is a huge claim… So I’m just providing a retort

Oh no doubt better at this age. The main reason I don’t think he will make the heights that the OP believes is purely down to a physical level (I don’t think he’s as quick or as strong to make it).roperclaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 9:43 pmOf course. I doubt he will have more successful career than Collins. Collins is playing regular starting eleven football for a top ten premier league team. Harwood Bellis has some way to go to near that level.
