Still around Ian I asked a question about PCP and someone told me to walk everywhere....I just give up on the thread and took the new car.

At least nobody wondered why you were asking about "Angel Dust" phenylcyclohexyl piperidine, also known as angel dust among other names, is a dissociative hallucinogenic drug used for its mind-altering effects. PCP may cause hallucinations, distorted perceptions of sounds, and violent behavior.

Although some on here at times I reckon are users 🤣🤣🤣

Bit the bullet and ordered the car, picking it up from Blackburn when I'm down for the Stoke game.
It will be our fourth car on a PCP, 7 years of new cars ..no problems still paying £130 a month just over 4 quid a day, would never entertain buying a car outright again, and you don't have to wrap them in cotton wool like someone suggested the last one we swapped for our current one we had transported our two dogs in in for 4 years the seats took a battering,we did the deal over the phone from here in Scotland to the garage we deal with In Blackburn when the day came to swap over the salesman never even looked at the car we was trading in,we just got in the new car and drove away...its suits our needs we are happy with those arrangements

Yeah I’ve never been careful with mine, and had muddy bikes thrown in the back of them for years and never had to pay any damages etc when handing back.

Slightly different situation for us, as carers to two Adults who live with severe learning disabilities, who share our home we have the use of a Motability vehicle on a 3 year lease.

Motability offer a " good condition " bonus of £600, paid directly to the user, if the vehicle goes back in an acceptable condition, with normal " wear & tear ", both keys, and serviced according to schedule. Well worth paying for a decent valet before it's return in that case ... ;)

Absolutely- I always take it in for a top-level valet before handing back. It’s incredible how good they get it looking!

Nothing, the previous car acts as a deposit,it works for us,we will probably keep this one I'm about to pick up next week for a couple of years then just trade it for a new one,the one we have now even had two years free servicing its care free motoring ....it works so well for us,the only downside is we are limited to 8,000 miles a year ( think it's about 8pence a mile if you go over)on those repayments, but like I said we will keep it for two years then trade in again,we have only gone the full term with one car on PCP over four years but still got a great price on trade in.We have always said we don't want our monthly payments to rise much...and the dealer has worked round that for us.
We aren't car snobs it's a means of transport..it's comfortable and as all the latest gadgets and gets us from A to B.....it ideal for us....might not suit everyone and some people prefer to walk everywhere....each to their own and all that eh? :D

Genuinely interested. Have you ever handed one back and walked away from PCP or do you just exchange for another car? I would expect much more resistance if walking away and it's always put me off. It would be good to know I'm wrong, although I think I may have undersold how much abuse my cars get and it wouldn't work regardless..

I have only ever done a straight lease rather than PCP, and leased the next car from a different company so have always walked away in that respect. Never had an issue with damage etc, was really surprised first time as I expected them to go over it with a magnifying glass.

They did check it over thoroughly but the margin for fair use is obviously fairly lenient.

I handed one back about 5 years ago and the salesman didn’t even check to see if I’d returned the car, never mind what condition it was in. My experience is that they expect small scuffs etc and will have factored in a few hours in their body shop.

What sort of new car costs only £6k or so over 4 years, out of interest?

Steve, do you mind me asking which garage you use for the pcp, we’ve never done one but are genuinely interested in looking into it. Hope your new motor goes well for you.

We have been using PCP since 2015 beddie,we have used varying dealers Vantage Toyota in Preston,Bury Motor's in Bury😊and latterly Stoneacre in Blackburn, they will always try and push the three year deal but we always insist on a four year one,we never intend to keep the vehicle for four years and have only done it once, the dealer has even said to us its always best to not go the full term and you get better deals if you end it early...I can only speak for ourselves but we are happy with the car/payments and the service we get...the car is never yours but the pro's out weigh the con's ...Good Luck I hope you find what your looking for.

Steve. I’ve found a car I’m interested in and looked at PCP. I’ve been told by someone that if say I take it over 36 months and agree 10,000 miles per year it doesn’t matter if I go well over the mileage as I’d be handing it back (deposit etc) and take another one be that after 24 months or 36 months and that I wouldn’t have to pay the excess mileage. Does that sound right to you, incidentally Ive also learnt about GFV - guaranteed future value.

Only way you'll pay an excess mileage charge is if you hand the vehicle back to the finance company. Bear in mind though, as the mileage stated is used to determine the GFV setting it too low could put you into negative equity if you wanted to part ex it at the end of your agreement.

E.g. you state 10k miles per year, on a three year deal so they estimate your car is work £5000 in three years. You actually do 20k miles so the car actually turns out to be worth £4200 - You either swallow the £800 in your part exchange deal or pay the mileage penalty and hand it back.

The current situation with used car values has undoubtably helped folk but I wouldnt base it on being the case, long term.

Thanks Steve and Darthlaw. We’ll give it some thought. Having never done it before and being retired we’re now thinking to stick with what we’ve always done by buying it outright or not bothering at all. Working out the figures they add a fair chunk of interest which has put us off. After todays news from the Bank of England we’re inclined to hold tight. Thanks again though.
