BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
Yesterday saw a top of the table clash in L1 between Plymouth and Ipswich. Attended by 15,000. Not a mention of the match on the BBC Football Home Page (unless my eyes are that bad). Had to look for a report via the fixtures/results section.

The issue you are having is the game wasn't yesterday, so you'd be unlikely to find a report on it on Saturday.

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
The BBC are seriously pushing woman's football and that now seems to take priority over even the Championship. I think they are over playing the importance of the women’s game. It has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and that is good but in the overall scheme of things is it more important than anything other than the PL? The BBC seem to think so but I have asked people recently at what standard it is currently at. The general consensus seems to be not very in terms of football generally. I wonder about the outcome of even the best woman's team against a league two side and I think they’d get buried.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 4:52 pmWomens football results come before League One on the BBC website
It’s good that they are doing so well and getting recognised but it is being over-hyped a tad methinks. I saw a bit of Arsenal v Spurs yesterday and it was pretty dreadful in my opinion. I did ask a question though that came to mind. Why are there not more goals given the size of the goalkeepers? There aren’t too many 6ft plus women around.

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
I've noticed that the BBC have a very peculiar way of ordering the results. It's like Premier League, Championship, Scottish Premier, women's matches, then leagues one and two, then the rest of Scotland and then the conference. Very confusing when you're trying to check your coupon. Throw in a midweek checkatrade fixture and it's chaos. Someone must be giving some thought to how they present it which does give the impression that they are ranking things in order of how important they think they are.

It’s the prioritising of European leagues that annoys me.
And the difficulty in navigating towards the specific divisions of the football league.

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
Outside of this forum, I've seriously never known anyone with even the slightest interest in women's football apart from one work colleague 18 years ago whose daughter played in some or other school team.
The BBC is desperately trying to promote an impression of something that's gaining massive momentum, and is the coming thing. The reality, despite these marquee games packed with squealing schoolgirls clutching their free tickets really is very different.

The thing I don't understand with the goalkeepers is why they still play in full size nets?houseboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 5:12 pmThe BBC are seriously pushing woman's football and that now seems to take priority over even the Championship. The goalkeeping standard is awful but a lot is probably to do we the size of the goal

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
I heard an interview with a woman on the radio (didn't catch her name) but heard her say the attendances this weekend were amazing and showed how the events of the summer had captured the entire countries interest. She said how the crowds were amazing and mentioned 2 of the games of 27k and 47k which again told everyone that womens football was a huge thing now.
I was surprised at the 2 crowds mentioned and wondered why the focus was on just the 2 crowds, Brighton 5k Chelsea 4k and West Ham v Man Utd 2k maybe had something to do with that.

Women's football is being pushed, not just by the BBC, but by many other media outlets in different degrees. I hope it works if only because women’s football is much more honest than the men’s game.

I must admit I find it really hard navigating these new things called websites and really struggle to find the football fixtures and results I am interested in as sometimes I have to scroll down more than I used to and sometimes need to pick the set of a results I am after.

I'm getting fed up too. If we carry on like this, we are going to end up with women being given the vote, and maybe even a female head of state.

Forget all this ..Lets get to the real BBC error..
Why on earth do they put the Scottish Premier league above any English league apart from the Premier on the results page. Who on earth is interested in that apart from the skirt wearers .

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
Why not just have a Men’s football section and a Women’s football section then everyone can go to the sport that interests them. It is so they can prove they are giving equal coverage to both and it is piggybacking the mens game. Otherwise the Women’s football section should prosper on it own in terms of number of hits and advertising demand.

If they're so confident that people want to watch it, then charge a separate subscription for it and see how many will pay for it.

Yeah, totally agree. I've never met anyone with a real interest apart from folks on forums. They tried the same for the Championship, it was called ITV Digital and it crashed and burned nearly taking down a number of clubs with it. There’s only the Premier League and Champions League capable of making money on their own.claretandy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 26, 2022 10:23 amThey come before the championship on the sky sports app.

I really don’t understand why people care about the order of things on a website or app whether they support women’s football or not. And if the Sky App is worrying you so much use the features they have to present the content you’re interested in first.

BBC Sport in general are only interested in the top level of any sport.
Keighley Cougars have just finished their season with 20 wins from 20, a great achievement at any level of sport but not one mention from the BBC.

Women’s football has got huge momentum at the moment and I enjoy seeing the progress that it’s making.
The bbc gets criticised for almost every move it makes.
I think the bbc get the balance about right.
Get with the times.

A fine achievement, no doubt but how much coverage has this received on any other national sports news channel?
Will they be banned from joining the Super League again?

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
I'm yet to hear a single reasonable explanation for why the BBC would give coverage to a women's football match that 47,000 attended.
Worse, on the BBC football homepage right now there are 55 clickable links and 12 of them are about women's football. That's over 20% of their homepage space being given to women. The men's game is struggling to raise its profile as it is, and then the BBC pull this one. Game's gone mad. I can hardly finish my gammon thinking about it

For a start it’s one of the sports that the BBC has rights to televise.

Great thread that has gone from complaining the BBC didn't cover a League One match with an attendance of 15,000 (which it did) to complaining they didn't cover League One Rugby League matches with an attendance of three men and a dog.

Seeing a 12yr old stood in a full size goal is ridiculous
You are allowed to use 7x21 goals but as you say with the facilities available (or lack of) not possible

Tennis.
If you must watch a women's sport watch that. Unlike women's rugby and football it doesn't look like a complete parody of the real thing.
Plenty of genuinely attractive young fillies to pick from and none of obvious penis-envy that clearly pervades the other sports.

Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
It’s not the order of things that I care about. I’m only bemused that people care more about, say, Barcelona vs espanyol more than, for example Plymouth vs Ipswich at the wknd.
The thing that annoys me is the difficulty in navigating toward that which does interest me on the BBC site.
Re: BBC website Football Home Page Priorities
You may be bemused but it’s just the way things are. You’ll see more Barcelona tops in the average UK town or city centre that Plymouth or Ipswich (outside of their immediate catchment areas of course).Rowls wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 3:20 pmIt’s not the order of things that I care about.
