Mental club. Hire manager, sign loads of random players that don't fit his system, few bad results, sack him.

Having said that, Bilic is probably a better fit for their squad and could get them top 6.

They are the strangest club in English football.

I know managers get paid off but what attraction is there to managers going Watford? They know they won't be allowed the time to implement their own ideas, signings etc because their time is up after a couple of poor results.

they caused all kinds of upset at Forest Green over Edwards and then made statements insisting they were having a more long-term outlook

Watford. The only club where Manager of the Month is viewed as a strategy and not an award.

I genuinely hope they don't go back up this year. All the dodgy stuff with the transfer of Kamara to Udinese for 16m and then 'loaned' straight back just doesn't sit right. If they were struggling for cash flow they should have to sell their main players like we had to, but no, they turn down 20m+ bids as they know they can just wangle cash from Udinese.

A really poor way to run a football club, and far too early to sack a new manager, but they have underperformed so far enough that it must be a worry. They should be the team competing with us, Sheffield United and Norwich and instead with Joao Pedro and Sarr up top they've got 11 goals in 10 games.

Started well, didn't lose all their good players, who have then effectively downed tools as they haven't got their moves

Manager pays for terrible recruitment strategy

You do wonder if the owners have taken their eyes of Watford a bit as Udinese have started like a train in Italy

Shame for the manager, but it was his choice to go there

Just seen a stat on Twitter that says Watford are looking for their 17th manager since July 2012, which is only one fewer than West Ham have had in their entire history...

This should suit Bilic perfectly as his contract is due to be terminated just before he begins his World Cup television punditry in November.

There will never be a shortage of managers willing to go to these clubs as they know there will be a very good pay-off at the end of it!

Someone just asked me why do they sack so many managers -

Funny how the majority of football managers sacked in the Premier League and EFL these days seem to be white males. Maybe Lawrenson has a point after all.

Lower league clubs should write a release clause into their managers contracts that they can leave for Watford with the agreement they can return to the job after they get sacked - it's like a three month loan agreement. They save their money on with interim manager on a monthly rolling contract, Watford get a manager to do a job for three months and the manager has had a bumper pay rise for a few months before returning to his old job again. Everyone is a winner.

Basket case of a club..they did pay 18.5 million though for Andre Gray expecting him to score the goals to keep them in the Premier league so what do you really expect?is that the only time in history that we have had someone's trousers down over a transfer fee?

This sacking comes as no surprise to me, Edwards started fairly well at Watford, but their recent results have been poor, and Watford's owners aren't renowned for their patience.

Bilic isn't a bad appointment at 1st glance, he knows this division, and crucially what it takes to get out of it.

Answered your own question there I think. Anyone needing a nice payoff within the next couple of months should apply for the Watford job.

The good thing is anyone getting sacked haven’t generally damaged their reputation as there is usually limited rationale to the firing from Watford.

That’s a really good cast. I enjoyed it.

For those who have a brain, engage it and then think about the disproportionate number of white males in the game.

Its not a cast, im using the obvious absurdity of thinking sacking a white male manager because he is white and a man in a profession predominantly made up of white men to highlight the equally stupid idea of how when a white male sports pundit or commentator loses their job in a profession predominantly made up of white men its got something to do with them being a white man as per the Mark Lawrenson thread.

I know the subtlety of this will be too much for most on here but Im sure some people recognise the point I was making.

I'm not quite with you so it's too subtle for me. Both statements can be true...
Football is made up of predominantly white males and Mark Lawrenson was sacked because the BBC wants to do something about that. Seems a fair assessment of what we are seeing.

Nope there is nothing to suggest that Lawrenson's contract was not renewed because he is a white man. The fact that until recently his profession was predominantly made up of white men it then everything else being equal when the BBC look to refresh things and not renew the contracts of some of the older guard then its predominantly going to impact white men more.

Its funny how most people on here think nearly all the football pundits are useless but its only the useless female or black pundits who got their jobs due to their gender or colour. If thats the case how are all the useless white males getting jobs and why can't whatever reason you come up with for useless white men getting their jobs equally apply to women or black men?

It's clearly a strategy to get more diversity on the screens. No problem with that at all personally, but would have shaped thinking when Lawrenson's contract was being reviewed, being white and male will not have strengthened his case at all, which is fine given the advantages he will have enjoyed previously. I don't see anything controversial in saying that.

Depends on the terms of the contract they've signed.
Could be a lump sum pay off, with further payments that end when they find a new job, just for example.
Or pay out their contracted wages over duration of contract until they get a new job.

Or just an agreed pay off and that's it.

Its no though. Im sure the BBC do want to be more diverse but thats because there has been an historic unbalance due to bias towards white males which needed addressing and not some "woke agenda"

Unless you think that white men are naturally superior in the qualities required to work on TV in the area of sport and football then you would expect their to be a reasonably equal split between of different groups of people working across the profession.

That means that if 9 out of the 10 older employees being replaced are white men due to historical bias and discrimination whereas only 4 or 5 of the replacements are white men due to now having more equal opportunities then there will naturally be a proportion of white men being replace by non white men.

If you're daft enough or bigoted enough to think this is some agenda against white men then thats your problem and you have my sympathy.

Lol, you're desperate for an argument. All I've said is race and gender will have been a factor in moving Lawrenson on. "Addressing the historic unbalance" as you describe it amounts to exactly the same thing. I think we're on the wrong thread anyway so I'll leave you to it. Enjoy.

What day was he Watford manager?

I'm surprised that there isn't a fake Watford twitter account out featuring guest Watford managers each week with clever introductory videos.
I'd recommend Jon Dahl tomasson to them as next week's manager.

I remember walking away from Vicarage Rd after the game towards the end of the 2013/14 season and talking to a couple of Watford fans. Not only did you steal our Manager, you have probably ruled us out of the play offs was the comment. Hardly stealing though is it, your board sacked him, ours had the good sense to appoint him.

Reminds me of a German joke.

A Starfighter was the Luftwaffe version of the US F-104 jet fighter.

Question: how do you acquire a Starfighter? Answer: buy a small plot of land - one will arrive eventually.
