You said he wasn't good enough. He clearly is based on his form for both us and Newcastle.
Being good enough to be selected for the squad isn't the same thing as being good enough to start games.

Wish he'd give it up as a bad job.

Not sure which England keeper is in better form, but if you want to blame Southgate, go ahead.

The thought of that backline at the World Cup is terrifying.

Pickford is rightly England’s number 1 and by some distance too

Maybe this game has gone to show that we’re better off throwing caution to the wind than overcompensating for a poor defence. They needed that half big time.

Would have been one of the most memorable non-tournament games in many a year if not for the uncharacteristic rick from a certain Nick Pope, which I dare say Pickford will be thinking he'd have held on to.

Look forward to all the reasons it doesn't count from the usual moaners.

Happy with that

Southgate used his subs well, and if it wasn't for the three mistakes we'd have won comfortably

But Maguire and Pope might have done their chances no good at all there

This ludicrous winter world cup is a farce built on corruption and the sweat and tears of migrant slave labour. I’ll not be watching.

It's his club form that has got him this far.

Unfortunately Pope looks way out of his depth in an England shirt. Extra responsibility and extra pressure which he also adds to himself with his poor footwork. He just doesn’t look comfortable and I don’t think he has the belief that he should be on the pitch.

I’m pretty sure there’s been some shockers down the years that warrant a score worse than that.

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

How many caps had Seaman won when he let Ronaldinho lob him from half way?

The corruption, and the slavery, and the deaths, and the fact it's in a desert, and the fact it had to be moved to the middle of a football season because it's in a desert, and the totalitarian rule, and the religious bigotry, and the political and social oppression. 'But whatabout' is not an excuse. I bet Russia couldn't believe their luck when they were awarded 2018 the same day Qatar was awarded 2022.

I like Newcastleclaret and wish he didn't get 15 nasty replies whenever he posts something stupid, but you can't accuse Alan Pace of sportswashing and then say you don't understand the problem with the World Cup being in Qatar. It just isn't on.

You can criticise Jordan Pickford but he has been excellent and consistent for England, and once fit will be No 1. Sadly for Nick, Ramsdale may have slipped into the No 2 slot tonight

Better than the Italy game, but nowhere near good enough.
The Germans are going through a similar lull, but we didn't show the improvement needed. Defensively died, and until we chucked the kitchen sink not a lot going forward.
Still no shape or purpose to our game, everything off the cuff. Some will use the result to back Southgate, but not me, he's still our biggest problem.

From a footballing point of view it’s an area of the world that the tournament hasn’t been held before. Reaches new fan bases etc… to increase revenue in the game.

If we are looking at it financially, it’s got to be linked to getting one of the most financially liquid regions in the world more invested in the game.

Midwinter is realistically the only time the tournament could be held there due to the weather.

Maguire was integral to that incredibly good defensive unit at the Euros, I know he's the national scapegoat atm but he's a good player, he's shown that throughout his career.

I often wonder why Russia and Qatar got their world cups. Why should two extremely rich and corrupt countries be chosen by the honest and trustworthy Sepp Blatt as host countries?
