Cardiff City

Bit of credit for them from me - thought they really competed well and largely managed to stifle the way we wanted to play. Unsure if they’ve been unlucky thus far and not got the points that they should have done, or just whether they got an interim manager bounce.

Not sure what I expected as I hadn’t seen them before today, but their position surprises me as they were arguably a better side than anyone else we’ve played (bar West Brom)…for me.

I too thought they did ok.
But we should have had enough guile to see out those last few minutes.

Thought they were well organised and offered a threat. Didn’t just sit deep and defend for 90 minutes like Preston. Deserved their goal although it was the first decent chance they had all game.

Thought they were quite poor as well considering how bad we played. They pressed better than us though. Their commentators were very good though and not that biased.

Yeah, credit where it’s due.

They were decent throughout.

Once Tella gets subbed (as he will in most games at the moment), there’s no movement up front so their defence moves up and they dominate midfield. They did this well following our subs. Considering they have no permanent manager, they were well organised, pressed well and were dangerous on the break. Our point was well won

An annoying ending after such a long drive.

Most of their play came down their right side through Romeo. Maatsen struggled all afternoon with him and their wide player doubling on him and it stopped him getting forward as much as he likes. Whether this was a plan of theirs or just their stronger side I don't know but it worked.
As for the camping in at the end. Kompany alluded to us not winning second balls after a long punt and head away. Cork and Cullen distinctly second best and bullied that second half...and it allowed them to get on the front foot and use that right hand side more...and that is where the cross came from. We are just not imposing or physical enough now. A soft touch.

They weren't a bad side..just lack a clinical striker i think. Generally a bog standard Championship team. However these are the teams we need to be seeing off if we are to get anywhere this season.

I tipped Cardiff to be one of the surprise teams in the Championship
with West Brom, Sheff. United and Norwich up there as favourites for top 4.
In fact Cardiff started off quite well beating Norwich 1-0 in the first game of the season
and getting a point at West Brom in their 4th game. They were above us at that point in the season.
Gone downhill a little since and lost their manager but still not an easy team to beat
especially at home

So getting a point down there isn't that bad albeit frustrating given they got their equaliser
in the last minute.
We didn't play well but still got a point.
And we've played much better and lost!

But lost only once.
