Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
I note that the Pendle M.P. Andrew Stephenson has written to the EFL asking for the league to reconsider their decision to play the above game on Sunday 13 November at 12 noon. Any chance the date and/or time will be changed ?

Better to just move remembrance Sunday to the week after when we're playing on the Saturday.

Would have thought he was too busy supporting the tanking of our economy to waste time on this sort of virtue signalling.

What is his rationale? There must be lots of derby games that have taken place on remembrance sunday.

His rationale is that it provides a nice populist distraction from the shambles his leader is currently presiding over. The irony isn’t lost that a man and a party that are so against ‘virtue signalling’ are engaging in a perfect example of it.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 11:01 pmWhat is his rationale? If you go on 'they work for you' you'll find that his voting record is...ahem...*checks notes*...whatever the prime minister of the day tells him to vote for, making him not so much a representative of his constituents, but rather a brainless head to be counted in the Palace of Westminster voting lobby whenever the govt needs a vote passed.
Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
It’s inconvenient and unfortunate but it’s been set now, meaning people have booked the day of work, booked flights and put other travel/social plans in place. Moving it again would be a bigger inconvenience and frankly taking the ****.

How many of the people complaining would actually go to the remembrance service?
I've been to a few and they're not that well attended

One of the arguments is that a lot of the people on duty that day, police, ambo’s etc might want to take part in services and now won’t be able to….
Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
Zero chance of it being moved now. And the descriptions of Mr Stephenson are perfect, a spineless yes man who does exactly as he's told.

I fail to see what the issue is? 1100 is our nations act of remembrance, and that’s what I’ll do. The match is at 1200, and I’ll also watch that.
Perhaps people can stop moaning about absolutely everything.
Replies saying I’m a disgrace will only be accepted from other people who have also fought in 2 wars and accumulated more than 22 years service for their country.

Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
Noon kickoffs on a Sunday are always difficult for a good number of us.
Noon on Remembrance Sunday is particularly disappointing, since it's Parade Sunday, and one of the few services in the year when the church is packed with all the uniformed organisations.
Personally I think it's important that young people attend ceremonies of this type and observe the silence and last post.
Sadly I think that there will be many missing this year.
Of course the consolation is that I expect there to be a silence etc before the match.
This will be a real challenge for some supporters of both teams, given the fixture, but hopefully the silence will be impeccably and respectfully observed.

Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
I'm afraid if you think any of the authorities involved in the organising and hosting of football matches, whether it be the governing body, the TV companies or the police, give a stuff about whether the ordinary football fan might incur costs or be put at a massive inconvenience by switching fixture times and dates at short notice, then you are very, very much mistaken.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 6:25 pmIt should have been scheduled for say 2pm Sunday, but you can't switch it now. Any decision on this matter will be taken without any regard whatsoever for the ordinary football fan.
Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
There are some very good reasons why this game is always an early kick off, mostly down to fans behaviour. It will always be played at the earliest time possible, even if not scheduled for TVCheshireclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 10:07 pmI'm afraid if you think any of the authorities involved in the organising and hosting of football matches, whether it be the governing body, the TV companies or the police, give a stuff about whether the ordinary football fan might incur costs or be put at a massive inconvenience by switching fixture times and dates at short notice, then you are very, very much mistaken.

Hello John
Thank you for your email, we acknowledge your views regarding this fixture.
As you will understand, via our broadcast partners, Sky Sports, a number of Championship games are selected for broadcast in designated slots across the season. As with all fixture changes, the kick-off time for Burnley v Blackburn Rovers was considered and approved by all parties including both clubs, the EFL and local police.
We should add that time will be taken at the match to give those in attendance the chance to pay their respects to servicemen and women affected by wars past and present, as has been done in previous matches played at this time for many years.

A minutes silence and the playing of The Last Post will be an absolute disaster for this match. Whilst 99% of supporters (both sides) will respectfully observe this there are just too many ****heads who will spoil it and embarrass themselves and the clubs. Could we not do this before the cup match with Crawley instead?

I accept there'll be plenty of people at the match capable of bad behaviour but I don't understand the profile of someone who would be in that bracket and want to disrespect this minute's silence at all. It will be observed fine.

Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
EFL release statement in regard to the Burnley v Blackburn Rovers game
The EFL have released the following statement in regard to the Burnley v Blackburn Rovers game.
Following further discussions between the League, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers, Sky Sports, and the Lancashire Police, it has now been agreed that the Sky Bet Championship fixture between Burnley and Blackburn Rovers will kick-off at 12:30pm on 13 November.
There had been some concerns raised that the original re-arranged 12 noon kick-off time was too near to the start of Remembrance Day Services and in some circumstances, would prevent some supporters from being able to attend.
The move is intended to provide an opportunity to go to both events if so desired and, as with previous matches scheduled on Remembrance Sunday over the years, time will be taken at the match to give those in attendance the chance to pay their respects to servicemen and women affected by wars past and present.
A pre-match ceremony will be held at Turf Moor, with a Bugler present alongside the laying of a wreath

I thought football wasn't a place for politics?
That's what the anti BLM folks tell me all the time.
so...is it now a place for politics again? I'm confused.

Re: Burnley v Rovers at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday
It was a tradition, but in recent years the remembrance Sunday thing has turned in to an annual dick waving competition of who can pay their respects more. BLM had no place in football, and if traditions need to be scrapped to accommodate that then so be it.burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:15 amI thought football wasn't a place for politics?

Tradition? Don’t think so. Football ignored the whole remembrance thing for years and no one batted an eye lid.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:40 amIt was a tradition, but in recent years the remembrance Sunday thing has turned in to an annual dick waving competition of who can pay their respects more. So the new attack line from the anti-BLM lot is that "Look, we are going to have to cancel Remembrance Sunday so we can cancel BLM protests"
Honestly, how mad do you have to be not to think that sounds completely mental?

The annual “look at us aren’t we remembering really hard” needs to stop. Scrap the silence, the poppy shirts and the shoulders at cup finals. It’s all very American having a close link between sports and the military.

I take it there will now be thousands attending remembrance services in the area, and not just having another pint in the pub.

I personally think there is a huge difference between a once annual act of remembrance and a weekly taking of the knee, a gesture that rightly or wrongly had other connotations due to its historical use.

I'd love to have a 4pm kick off one year. Pay the police whatever they want, maybe the same as they get for doing the Manchester derby, and crack on.
Early kick offs are rubbish, the atmosphere is usually terrible. OK, it all went wrong in the end, on and off the pitch, but we've never come close to the atmosphere in 2000 since.
