Re: Walking Football (BFC in the Community)
I started playing walking football in south west London last summer. Sessions run by Age UK. Since then Chelsea Foundation has introduced a weekly session. There are also a number of weekly sessions at Walton on Thames. Chelsea organised a walking football "festival" (prizes for all - as opposed to "tournament" where one team wins) at the beginning of September. Group of us are entered in another event end of this month run by Fulham Community, same venue in Walton. I've been told there's another Burnley fan plays at Walton. Also, a couple of weeks back one of our group posted a photo of Burnley Clarets Walking Football Club, saying his mate's brother played for them.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 2:15 pmWent to this for the first time today and really enjoyed it so thought I would mention it on here in case anyone is interested but currently unaware.

I have played WF for a few years and thoroughly enjoy it. Great way to meet fellow football supporters and keep “fit”.WF is growing fast in the South West and I am a member of the Cornwall over 65 team. My club is the St. Austell “Saints”, fancy a tour to Cornwall anyone?

Re: Walking Football (BFC in the Community)
I started playing WF a few weeks ago and it is very enjoyable and as mentioned a great way to keep fit and interact with other football fans. This Sunday was particularly enjoyable as there are a number of Spurs supporters play so you can imagine the stick they got. It is much more intense than i imagined it to be and is similar to 5 a side - no over head, no slide tackles etc. so you are constantly involved, no time for a breather. And you can move a quickly as you like as long as you always have one foot on the ground.
It takes a bit of getting used to - got to play to feet as i found out the first time i played when i played a great through ball for someone to run on to, only for them to walk after it and the ball run out of play for a goal kick. I also got penalised for 'excessive physical contact' in the first 10 minutes of my first game so had to tone that side down a bit!

That's a very accurate summary Herts. The temptation to run at times is huge !
