Loretta Lynn ... RIP
Loretta Lynn, Country Music icon dies at 90 ...
I've always had a weakness for vintage Country music, and Loretta Lynn especially. Born into a more abject poverty than any of us will ever know, and married at 14, she was recording songs like " The Pill " and " Don't come home a drinkin', with lovin' on your mind " before the " feminist " movement really caught alight in the College Campus's...
To those who questioned her politics ( Republican ), she was entitled to form her own views, not just those expected of her by those who purport to tell us we should think based on our background, race, or religion. Remember, the views on race openly expressed by Democrat senators in the South when she was growing up, would have put them in jail today ...
Finally, " Coal Miner's Daughter " holds a special place for me because on 29th July 1989, I married one ... the love of my life !

Re: Loretta Lynn ... RIP
Aye, RIP Loretta, some memorable songs.
She had a late career fillip when championed by Jack White, helping her make the Van Lear Rose album (the only work of hers I have an album of). That won Best Country Album Grammy c 2005. (Van Lear being the coal mine where her dad worked).
I guess Coal Miner's Daughter is what most people will remember her by still though- from back in the early 1970s.
Her sister is Crystal Gayle - also a pretty successful Country singer.

Re: Loretta Lynn ... RIP
You just broke my heart.
From a young age, I have loved Loretta Lynn and her music. Have lots of LPs etc.
I first saw her on TV when they showed coverage of the Country Music Festival at Wembley. She was top of the bill and stopped me in my tracks.
My sister and now brother in law, took me to Wembley, the following year and I got her autograph.
My number one female singer.
Almost in tears. Damn

" You're the reason our kids are ugly " & " Easy Lovin' ", duets with Conway Twitty and, " You're not woman enough to take my man " and " Fist City " , both with lyrics warning off her husband's lady admirers, shall we say ....

Country music isn't my bag, but I'm aware of how big Loretta Lynn was in her field.
90 isn't a bad innings is it.

She was the ultimate traditional country female singer - Country music has lost their equivalent of the Queen.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 5:59 pmAye, RIP Loretta, some memorable songs.

Re: Loretta Lynn ... RIP
Just come back from Tenerife and we were in a Karaoke Bar and I thought it was fabulous hearing an 8 year old girl belting out songs by Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Jenn Bostic to a standing ovation. Wonderful stuff.
