Can JayRod go past Payton?
Can JayRod go past Payton?
Assuming he can get near 20 this season, he will be close...all scored at a mainly higher level of course.

Wouldn't it be great if he topped up his running total by filling his boots against the Undead in a couple of weeks?

Whatever happens, Andy's 69 League goals from 115 starts, + 41 appearances off the bench, is pretty good going, especially as he was 31 when he re-joined us ....

Re: Can JayRod go past Payton?
Every chance that Jay could finish Championship top scorer this season if he stays fit, and i fully expect him to bag another 10 at least.
His resurgence truly highlights the huge gulf between the PL and the Championship, in the PL he barely troubled the scorers for 2 seasons, yet now in the Championship he's ripping it up.
Keep banging them in Jay.

Agree on the difference in level but the system really didn't suit him either. He's much better dropping deep, picking. Up the ball and making runs into the box than chasing long balls down the channels. But I never saw him complain. Just got on with it. Top pro.

I think we would all love him to beat Payton’s record.
So many writes off for the old guard at the start of the season- Jay and Jack have been the backbone so far this season.

Re: Can JayRod go past Payton?
He has 70 from 250 in all competitions for us I think, a very good record that considering his last two seasons prior to this he has sporadically started and suffered with injuries and the requirements of the Premier League.
If he stays fit there is every chance he gets more than his last season at this level with West Brom (22). If he were to achieve that feat he would be in the region of 85 goals for Burnley. It would be fantastic to see him break 100 for us, but promotion would make that difficult perhaps.

Re: Can JayRod go past Payton?
The service last season was poor with Dwight, who had previously done well none existent in a lot of games Now we have very quick players who create a host of chances which can only help a top striker like Jay

Re: Can JayRod go past Payton?
He's not going to get another 19 this season, then if we go up, I can't see him playing.
Re: Can JayRod go past Payton?
Jay Rod has 0.65 goals per 90 minutes, if he played every minute of every game until the end of the season he'd finish the season on 29.9 goals scoring at the rate his is now. Obviously he's not going to play the full 90 every game though.
If he carries on scoring at the same rate per game played 8 from 15 so far, he'll end up on 23.5 That would be a pretty impressive tally if he gets to it but still short of Payton by about 4 goals.
Neither of those extrapolations take into account Jay being rested or injured at any point during the season.
Looks like Payton's record is safe for now.
