Jimmy Hill was a prominent figure abolishing wage cap for footballers way back.
The advent of the premier league brought huge finances to the league and owners. Couple that with Bosman ruling gave players, sorry agents, the power to negotiate huge amounts for their players.
Strangely enough, jimmy hill was at conventry when he was pushing for the removal of the wage cap.

Jimmy Hill (pre- Coventry City)

In 1957, he became chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) and campaigned to have the Football League's £20 maximum wage scrapped, which he achieved in January 1961,[5] when Fulham teammate Johnny Haynes became the first £100-a-week player.[2]

Fair enough. As I say Coventry is a decent club. The Coventry Spurs Cup Final is probably my favourite one. It’s sad to see clubs lose grounds.

He worked on the Ricoh but wasn’t employed by Coventry City until after they had moved.
