Looks like it comes off Benson and back onto the defender.

Deflects back off their defender on the way out after it hits Benson, nothing to see here.

Jesus wept ... We won . FACT . they lost . FACT .
Who cares ... its like the hand wringing over the pen not given v Reading ... it wasn't given . FACT .
Tonight has to be one of those games that goes down in memory ... The Ref was garbage but ... he added the time on for the blatant time wasting all over the pitch by Rotherham. So he will be getting higher marks from me for that.
Some folk on here seem disappointed we got all 3 points tonight (and are moaning about it) ... Jesus wept would you be happier if we had lost ... it seems so.

I agree it was their throw in after the ball comes back off Benson it bounced in front of their defender's foot and then
into touch

I'm sure they had a throw in in the first half that should have been ours. It evens out.

There were two clear instances (one for us one for then) where the ball was at least a foot over the Bob Lord touchline and the linesman just looked blank and did precisely nothing.

They rode their luck all night did Rotheham. On another night we would have had 6 or 7

This
We battered Rotherham for large parts of the game having the majority of possession and shots cleared of the line, but and some give Rotherham all the credit and only focus on the negatives.
Fans should be grateful that we are 5 pts clear and focus on all the positives from another great fight back like Sunderland, Reading and Rotherham, now those are the signs of a championship winning team

I thought that. We were nowhere near our best, so many silly misplaced passes lost up momentum and put us under pressure but despite that we scored 3 and created some great chances.

We had a 3.46 xG and 24 shots - 11 on target.
They had a 0.62 xG and 8 shots - 5 on target.
517 passes (88% success) and 71% possession.
I know stats don't tell the full story, but when you add that to the performance, even though it wasn't near our best, we still deserved the 3 points.

Credit to Roberts for the quick throw in to Benson. You can't be offside from a throw in so well done Connor for speed of thought which gave Benson time to weave past the the first defender. Josh should have buried it TBH but hey ho it was a classic poachers goal from the Dervish.

I was happy to see Benson take up that position, knowing he couldn’t be offside from the throw.
I’m surprised this isn’t used more often. If one guy goes ultra high a defender has to go with him meaning everybody else can get into space upfield without being offside.

Nothing new I seem to remember we scored a similar goal against Arsenal in the “Capital Punishment “ season. A quick throw on the right to Kevin McDonald who curled the ball in from a tight angle.

Incidentally, some Rotherham fans are blaming the linesman for getting it wrong. They shouldn't, because it's not the linesman's job to give that - his job is to look along the line checking for offside, not to look down at the floor to see who's kicking the ball. The ref gave the throw-in, hence the linesman's very brief hesitation.

Yes it was their throw in. However (and even some Rotherham fans have pointed this out) their guy confronts the linesman to complain instead of doing his job and playing on.
Benson finds space..Roberts takes it quick and he is totally out of the game.
That is inexperience. Play on..complain later.

Either way we scored the winning goal in the 100th minute. Is that our latest goal ( excluding extra time games) ever ?

Whether it was our throw or not Rotherham should have adhered to the old maxim play to the whistle, they switched off allowing us to create the chance to nick it at the death.

Spot on...the referee gave it, despite the linesman clearly being in a much better position. He flagged our way in response to the referee's signal

Interesting to see this... I think it's stretching it for Rotherham fans to be aggrieved that this throw-in was awarded to us. To my eyes, it looks like it was their throw - but these will always be 50-50.
Their no. 2 was culpable here, for sure. He was more concerned with the linesman than doing his job.

I couldn't give a rats @rse who's throw in it was ... it was given to us ... their full back instead of playing the game continued to argue ... we score Yayyyyyyy ... cue rapturous Clarets on 4 sides of the ground (well the ones who hadn't left early to get up pushpinny's nose

)
We've had Arsenil doing us over with offside handball goals etc etc ... down the years ...
As has been said its karma ... The Ref who had been attrocious actually did his job and added the timewasting on at the end.
Boo hoo to the apologists ...
I don't feel sorry for them one iota

Quite ironic that a throw from our “specialist long throw taker” finally leads to a goal and it’s from a short throw
