I heard on the radio this morning that Peter Kay had it in his garage for ages, didn’t get to hear the end though as I had to get out of the car

What’s wrong with slating politicians? If anyone deserves it it’s this self serving, despicable bunch of incompetents. Having said that the world is laughing at them without the need for help from comedians.

Oh you’re kidding Woodley, surely?

It’s absolute genius.

Not quite “still game”, neither up there with “Blackadder” or “Porridge” but still outstanding.

I was a fan of his earlier stand up, but not so much the later stuff. A bit too repetitive for me.

Each to their own tho I suppose. 🥴

The best funniest comedians never resorted to slating politicians. They didn't need to do. But many of this current lot do and its just not funny. Politicians do need slating at times - like now - but not by so called comedians. They are not politicians and frankly many are not even funny. This thread is about Peter Kay. Watch wat h what he says and does.

I’ve watched him many times and he is funny…extremely. But I would hardly rank him among the greats. Comics are funny for different reasons and political comedy is just as funny as observational comedy. Some comics don’t even have to speak at all to be funny (Tommy Cooper, EricMorecambe) and some are more visual (Lee Evans) so to dismiss political comedy as something of less value is not right. I personally think that Robin Williams was arguably the funniest man who had walked this earth and he found comedy in just about everything (except, sadly, his own life). I think the most important thing with comedy is delivery.
To coin an old catch phrase ‘it’s how I tell ‘em’.

You have your idea I have mine. To me sending up politicians like Trump.or Johnson I dont find particularly funny. Danny Boyle making fun of Rebecca Adlingtons looks was crass. Peter Kay snd before him the like of Les Dawson didn't need to plumb the depths like that. They usually took real situations that were humorous. Ken Dodd was amother and he could reel them.off non stop.

Comedy is an art form really and like all art the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you don’t like political comedy that’s okay, I just think if something makes me laugh it’s good. I don't like Ricky Gervais and I’ve never seen the funny side of Gavin and Stacey but they are popular so that’s okay too. You mentioned Les Dawson, now that we can agree on, he was the king of miserable comedy and very nearly a genius. Billy Connelly also, I would have loved to be stuck in a room with him and Williams. Comedy makes life feel so much easier at times and no matter what we all like or dislike we all love it in some form don’t we?

I think Peter Kay is great for visual comedy too. Just look for his best heckles on YouTube and wait for the 'ship' one

Telling jokes about politicians is far from a modern phenomenon. People have been making jokes about the 'power that be' for thousands of years. It's not even debatable. The Romans, Greeks and ancient Egyptians all left behind enough evidence.
