I assume they were let off behind the cricket field stand?
How you then get it to explode just over the pitch and shower the players, intrigues me.
I thought it was dangerous, I'm sure the ref paused the game. I think some Blackburn players were about to complain they'd been burned. It wouldn't surprise me if the club are in trouble over this.
Where was the helicopter when needed?
Behind the stand ok, but not when people can get injured.

I liked the difference in the reaction of Muric and the Rovers player.

Why would the Club be held responsible???

I would have thought the club is responsible for the safety of the players on the pitch, but I might be wrong.

Especially if set off outside the stadium, club can't stop people setting fireworks off outside the stadium. Yes if flares are taken in then security aren't doing their job properly in terms of searches. But to be fair it's time our fans realised that ultimately its the club that will take the wrap, be it right or wrong.

Short of roofing the stadium, there's nothing they can do. If they came from the cricket field, as they appeared to, that's private land and the club has no control.

Were these fireworks any more dangerous than those let off in their millions on Bonfire Night?

Plus, A foreseeable risk at this time of year, especially as one had gone off before the game.
Aren't the club responsible for stewarding outside the ground too?
I'm not sure the FA will look into it enough, to realise the cricket field is private land.
I ask again, what was the helicopter doing? Surely that's what it was for.

If you launch a firework and people are covered in the falling debris it's a criminal act whatever time of year or wherever it occurs.
Covering stadia? Funny you should mention that. I hear several police forces are concerned about the air space above stadia for several reasons. I won't say why, but it's fairly obvious.

No, I thought it would be looking for people or groups of people acting suspiciously or even loitering in suspicious places.

Of the same view as Rowls that thought the fireworks added some drama to the occasion and I would’ve liked some more. A load of claret and blue ones set off over Towneley at FT :D

Was it definitely our fans? I presumed it was Blackburn fans leaving early and letting them off directing them in the ground. Can’t imagine many Clarets fan was outside the ground before the final whistle.

Not sure. The big bang was very close. Seemed to drop between the cfs and Longside but hard to pinpoint from my seat.

They should have had a sharp shooter on board with a pair of duelling pistols especially for this contingency.

The loud bang landed on the CF roof, which echoed the sound x10.

I was in the Jimmy Mc upper and saw it come over the CF stand roof. It looked to come from behind the away section where the away fan zone usually is. There was another which exploded in the air prior to the one that came on the pitch. That definitely came from Harry Potts way side of the CF stand/field.

I saw it before it exploded. From where I was in the JHL it looked to come from somewhere in the corner between the Bob Lord and Cricket Field Stands, couldn't tell whether that was from the concourse outside either stand or from further afield though.

If you charge people entry to your garden for commercial purposed yes, you have a duty of care to keep them & your staff safe. I would need to see your risk assessment to see If you'd adequately assessed the potential risk of fireworks and if you'd put appropriate controls in place to safeguard your staff and customers.

How do you control something that is outside your control?

If the firework was lit inside the ground then fair enough, but if it came from outside, then there’s nothing the club could have done to prevent that

Controls in this instance mean precautions or mitigations you put in place.
There does come a point where you say 'we did everything we reasonably could, the likelihood was significantly low and the impact to those in danger also sufficiently low that we felt the measures in place were adequate.
That might very well be the outcome, that's where the investigation will come in.

At this stage it's the police investigating who will play a large part in the club's risk assessment, that the area around the ground is being adequately policed.
I'm not saying the club is at fault, I'm just saying there is potential if they're found to have failed in their duty somehow.

I wondered at the time what the fireworks were, and why the debris was still burning as it landed on the pitch.
Most fireworks are designed to burn up whilst in the air, leaving spent shells and burnt paper falling to the ground, aren't they?
Clearly a powerful firework, possibly professional display grade.
That would suggest that maybe the firework was fired at an angle, or it was faulty in some way?
