This week marks the 70th anniversary of the UK charts, so a couple of articles to whet your appetite.
Anyone else recall taping the charts on Sunday afternoons long before the internet existed.
The 1st number one I can remember buying was Dreams by Gabrielle in 92/93, and that was from a great local record shop where you could pick up plenty of bargains including many songs still riding high in the standings,
I generally lost interest in the charts in the late 90's, and I could offer little stats on what is big in the streaming age, although what streaming has enabled is for many classic singles and albums to have a renaissance.
Biggest travesty for me has to be Joe Dolce bizarrely keeping Vienna by Ultra Vox off top spot for 3 weeks solid, there's no accounting for the musical taste of the British public is there.
Blur-Oasis battle for number one is the other big battle I recall.
Any else wish to share their chart memories feel free to contribute and add songs or vids if you desire pop pickers.
