Favourite Proper Lancashire Sayings!!
Lancashire has always been a bedrock of colloquial sayings..what's your favourite and it's meaning?
Mine was one I heard in Accrington recently when an 80 year old colleague missed an easy golf putt from 2 feet...he exclaimed
" Well, F*k my tin hat"!
Says everything!

Out for a night on the coits, which basically meant when you got home the door was locked and you spent the night on top of the outside toilet and coal dump and bin hole.

"Don't come running to me when yer break yer leg", was a particular favourite of my Mother.
Another typical one would be started by myself asking " Mum what's for tea?" to which if the mood took her she'd reply "5hit with sugar on." Thankfully it never was.

Stop picking your nose - your head will cave in.

Having moved to Kent at the age of 6 (54 years ago) I recognise a lot of these from my parents. They bought us a book called Lanky Spoken Here and my favourite one from that was “ ‘e were like a dog wi’ a tin dick”

Re: Favourite Proper Lancashire Sayings!!
When I got in the house and there was no sign of me mam, I’d ask my dad where she was.
I suppose you all know the full answer, which I won’t write - but suffice to say she’d run off.
There was nowt in it tho, regardless whether one or two might suggest there were certain undertones.
Agate is one I use a lot, along with folk I know.
Champion is a word I use a bit that my grandad used a lot to describe his mood/health.
