20-1 and the short ball tactic pays early dividends for England.

Stokes gets the key wicket of Babar, England well on top suddenly.

Doesn’t seem long ago when we’d have to be about 500 in front with a day left before we’d declare under Root.

80-2 at close a good recovery from Pakistan after losing those early wickets should be an intriguing final day.

Yep England under Stokes are a different animal.

Of course if England go on to lose this match his decision will be questioned.

Yes it was an adventurous declaration, I thought they'd try and get another quick 20-30 at least.
They'll get some stick if Pakistan win but I presume they have some confidence that the wicket will become more difficult for batting than hitherto. Makes it very interesting whichever way it goes.

If we do lose I hope it isn’t and instead the focus is on our new desire to win, rather than not lose, test matches. Test cricket as a format needs this as an attitude if it’s going to survive in the world of franchise cricket. Great to see bowlers being allowed to attack today. They usually are there to just serve up treats for the batters. Looking forward to tomorrows play.

I like this positive intent from England, and if Pakistan chase down the runs fair play to them, beats just playing out a tedious draw om the 4th and 5th days, although I've no doubt Boycott wouldn't approve.

Much prefer this approach to cricket, reminds me very of the way Shane Warne approached the game.

Nothing wrong with suffering the occasional loss trying to win a game rather than seeing out a tame draw

Going to be a thrilling end to the game, Pakistan need another 126, England need 5 wickets, tie isn't even out of the question.

Ball tracking can be added to VAR if that was missing the wickets, what a bloody joke.
It's no wonder it took so long to show it, it had to be doctored first.

There was a very bizarre ball tracking incident in the recent one dayers against Australia. Very suspect.

257-5 at tea, England striving for a breakthrough but the small margins not falling their way.

Looks like a Pakistan win on the way or draw, if they lose wickets.

(That should give England a chance😁)

The big factor re outcome is likely number of overs. Theoretically it's something approaching 40 but the light will give out well before that. Somebody at tea saying c 22 is the estimate. 4 per over from Pakistan would be tough if they lost another wicket soon. New ball due soon as well is a factor.
A really interesting 90 minutes coming up.

Will Pakistan now shut up shop having lost their 6th wicket, for me they should carry on chasing the runs and keep England under pressure.

Be ironic if Pakistan needed only a few and they went off for bad light wouldn't it.

7 down now, draw might suddenly be favourite, Pakistan win looks unlikely now, but England will sniff a win from here.

Smashing test match this has turned out to be. Ollie Robinson turning things back our way and was unlucky with one that hit the stumps at speed and the bails did not move! Talk about luck.

Jimmy with 4 for 36 off 21.4 overs ----- not bad for an oldie! He just keeps giving ----what a competitor.

Cracking game. 1768 runs scored, 37 wickets taken and 388.5 overs bowled and on a pitch that, on the first day, we never thought was going to give any result except a draw.

Boring dying Test Match cricket at it again.

Amazing effort to get 20 wickets on a pitch like that.

Not many would have been brave enough to do what McCullum and Stokes did there.

Genius declaration by Stokes who timed it to absolute perfection.

Credit to Anderson and Robinson for still running in hard on day 5 on a bland track.

The long tail costing Pakistan dearly in the end.

Brilliant from England and Stokes. He has totally manufactured that result with a declaration that I thought was way too generous. Hats off also to Jimmy and Ollie Robinson for some phenomenal bowling with the old ball.

Agreed a very generous declaration but Pakistan batsmen should have won this for them on that track. Just shows what last-day pressure can do, Stokes has the Midas touch.

To get a result on that wicket was amazing, but Stokes deserves the plaudits, refusing to play for a draw and setting a field to make this test match as exciting as any one dayer.
I hope he continues to play this way, some we'll win, some we'll lose, but it will always be worth watching

From a Pakistan point of view.... imagine scoring 847 runs over your two innings and still losing - bit of a sickener.

Second test starting tomorrow in Multan. There's a report from that city in the Telegraph today which contains some fairly alarming/interesting info:

"The atmosphere hangs heavy with pollutants and contributes to the haze and fog that will interrupt play. The air quality is deemed 'unhealthy' and was 18.5 times higher on Thursday than the World Health Organisation's guideline value."

"But this is an area off the tourist trail despite the history and beautiful mausoleums. Westerners are restricted to a handful of hotels that are allowed to accept foreigners and all are high walled with armed guards and watchtowers.
An armed police escort is required to leave the hotel, which shocked two supporters who were about to pop off into town to buy their match tickets – priced at 55-95 pence each per day for the VIP or premium enclosures."

"The Elite Punjab Police Commandos, with their black t-shirts emblazoned on the back with “No Fear”, glock pistols and M4s at the ready, clear the traffic for media convoys and supporter buses with sirens wailing, shouting at errant rickshaw drivers that get in the way."

"Around 7,000 police officers are on duty and the security bill for this series is expected to cost the Pakistan Cricket Board $2 million. Bulletproof buses and a helicopter chaperone have been provided for the journeys between the ground and stadium."
