Viktor Gyokeres

Nixon saying we are prepared to go big on him in January.

This would be an incredible signing.

Looks a very good striker and would be an excellent addition. Coventry fans won’t like that we are daring to try and sign another of their players!

Whole article for those interested:

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany will be in the bidding for Coventry City’s Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres in the window.

Kompany wants an extra forward for the promotion push and hard-running, quick-shooting Gyokeres is top of his list.

Gyokeres was valued at around £15 million in the last window, a fee that put off Fulham and Middlesbrough, and Burnley would not go in that high.

However the Clarets could make a splash at a large figure and hope that Coventry’s uncertainties off the field force a sensible sale.

Ironically Burnley tried for Sky Blues midfielder Callum O’Hare in the last market but he was injured as they closed in on a fee. And new arrivals since have meant he is not a priority now.

Kompany will get cash to spend after raising funds and also impressing with his instant improvement of the squad.

Burnley fear and almost expect Belgium will make an approach for Kompany to become the next national coach.

However the former Belgian skipper is committed to the club who gave him his big chance in England. And the fact he has had money and will continue to have it helps in any decision he has to take.

I’ve seen a bit about Belgium coming in for VK, but I don’t think he’s cut out to be an international manager.

I don’t mean he wouldn’t be able to, more that he wouldn’t want to. He appears to be and comes across as somebody that loves working with players on a daily basis and that doesn’t happen at international level

Would be a tremendous and exciting signing from what I've seen if him. I do wonder if a signing like this would may happen in the summer if we are promoted.

An excellent centre forward who can do a bit of everything very well from what I’ve seen. A real PL quality player.

I’d be delighted if we signed him so long as we didn’t gamble the club’s finances in chase of promotion that would leave us stuck if we didn’t do it.

Premier league quality striker imo.

Their fan base are going to have a meltdown over this if the O’Hare saga was anything to go by.

If we signed Gyokeres you may as well put a C next to our name as it would guarantee we win it.

I suppose it’s that thinking that means it’s a no brainer at £15m for Pace. It would be almost daft to not do this deal, and despite what Coventry fans might dream as they cry at night, the player would be absolutely desperate for that move.

Would be a great signing on so many levels. It would tick a lot if boxes.
A great player that would cement our promotion push.
Sends a message out to other teams.
A Pace retains credibility.
V Kompany is encouraged by being backed.
The fans see progress.
For me Grokeres is amongst the top 3 to have played against us this season.

VG would be a fabulous capture, and it also makes sense to strengthen while we're top of the table and can attract quality signings.

Exactly what our model should be doing where England is concerned. Signing players from below the Premier League, who are clearly going to step up.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying he’s going to be the next Haaland but his finishing and movement reminds me of him a bit.
Would be a great signing especially if we attract some blonde Swedish ladies to The Turf :D

If we can get him, and actually afford him, then great. Hes a top player at this level and undoubtedly has premier league potential.

Wonder if this potentially means a permanent deal being struck for Weghorst to free up funds - given they are similar players and presumably we wouldnt want both if we do get promoted. Whilst I know we had some money in the summer unspent, we didn't have that much and the impression was our bids were heavily structured on a "buy now, pay later" basis.

Coventry have no chance of going up and we are the best team in the league, so if Gyokeres wants to come, and why wouldn't he, then he can kick up a stink that will knock a few quid off that £15m.

Plus the Coventry owners we're dealing with now are different than the summer, so may be willing to accept lower valuations.

Not sure about that.
With the exception of us they are possibly the in form team in the division. Climbed up the table and only 2 points from play offs now with 2 games in hand which if they win puts them in 4th place a point behind Blackburn !

Also, I wonder if we’re still very keen on the Solihull Messi (O’Hare). There might be some smokescreening going on here too.

Really can't see VK taking the Belgium job . One of the main reasons it was said for him coming to Burnley, was his wife's desire to live in the North West of England.

Hope there's some truth in this transfer speculation though.

With Twine, Churlinov and Zaroury all seemingly in the same sort of mould, Nixon's comment that he's less of a priority now rings true

Agree. A central striker does appear to be a priority now.
Jay & Barnesy getting old, Brentford lad on loan and our young lad who started the season seems to have dropped down the pecking order.

Good point by BVK. If they win their games in hand they would be three points behind the automatic slots, four points would put them in the play off zone. Looks more likely to be an end of season signing, if at all, as Burnley are already the Division’s top scorers.

I haven't seen that much of him but everyone seems to rate him very high.
If we are to pay above 10m for a striker though, he has to be Premier league ready.

Given that our two strikers are 33 and Costelloe is still learning and our other option is a loanee its a postion that will need looking at.

Surely a prem club comes in for him in January. If not I would love us to snap him up. We can’t rely on Jay being fit all season , Barnes has cemented himself as a legend after our last game but the head tells us he’s not the same player these days, and to then put all our hope on Dervisoglu would be insane . Strengthen while we are in a good positron ! UTC

To be fair, we used to keep our cards close to our chest in terms of speculation. More recently though, if it’s it released by reputable source, there’s usually genuine intent to sign the player.

I like the look of Gyokeres, but can't see where the resale profit comes if we pay anywhere near 15 mill for him.
If we get him, so be it, he'd have my 100% backing, but looking at the incomings last summer, I would think there is a real gem out there that we could get for half the price. If we are still setting the pace in the promotion race, it would mean we would be fishing from a much bigger pond. Gyokeres was probably as good as we could hope for 6 months ago, but the next window I hope we look further

15m according to Nixon.

Regardless, things can change and their ‘takeover’ looks very much on the rocks, so who knows if they will be able to refuse a 15m bid. Just 18 months left on the contract.

A poster called EVO1883 REALLY doesn’t like Burnley and their fans!!! They are incredibly triggered by us reportedly liking two of their players. Very, very funny!

Gyokeres would be an excellent addition. They should do everything they can to strike a deal for him n January. Just what we need to give us good strength in depth up there and also a player who could be with us for a few years.

Not every single transfer has to be with one eye on resale value. It could be a transfer that ensures we go back up and that’s not a bad financial result for the club.

What’s actually happened with the takeover? I saw that some randomer had raised a legal challenge. Is that really going to hold it up?

If that new rich owner gets the gig, I can’t see him wanting to sell his star striker in January.

Nor can I really see us paying £15m if that’s the asking price.

I didn't realise he only had 18 months left, a lot of money for him then. I reckon it's a ruse and we will sign someone from Lithuania for a quarter of the price :D
There was an article online re: Dovbyk, his agent suggesting he wanted a move to England and Italy but price has gone up since summer. Article suggested we offered 7-8m euros.

Forest and other clubs interested apparently, although not sure why they didn’t buy in summer if they were really interested.

I could see something like that more than Gykores.

I suppose most of the funding would come from the Weghorst sale.

Coventry remind me of us back in the Cotterill days, star player being linked with a move away in January.

Could you imagine us back then selling Chaplow, Blake, Akinbiyi or Andy Gray for £15,000,000, the finances in football really have gone crazy.

I don't think we spend that high. £7m incoming for Weghorst. £1m for Long. Add 2 to 4m and that would do it.
