England v Senegal WC R16
England v Senegal WC R16
England make one change to the team that beat Wales, with Saka coming in for Rashford.
Sterling is not in the squad as he deals with family matters.
That front four of Kane, Foden, Bellingham and Saka looks our best, excited to see them together.

That’s my favoured front three but it’s a squad game when you’re getting to the knockouts. Just hope Rashford doesn’t take it badly.

He will be bursting to come on and score in the 2nd half ... Come on EnglandWinstonswhite wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 6:04 pmThat’s my favoured front three but it’s a squad game when you’re getting to the knockouts. Just hope Rashford doesn’t take it badly.

Squad game, Southgate would’ve been nailed for whichever attacker he didn’t start tonight. It’s gonna be a long game these are no mugs. Come on England!!!

Re: England v Senegal WC R16
Always going to be a tough call on who to omit from the attackers, and the bench might be vital if it's tight late in the game.
England should have enough to go through, but it might well be a nervy evening.

I guess Saka is more defensively disciplined if that's what you want. I'd struggle not to be quietly furious if I was Rashford. He'll play a part though I'm sure..

Re: England v Senegal WC R16
That’s a cracking and very quick, technical front line .
Senegal look decent , they beat a very tidy ( and very unlucky) Ecuador side , and gave Holland a good game .
There’s no way they will hold a lot of possession here though but can break very quickly and not shy of a shot either . Dangerous but surely we take this 2-1 ish

After playing the likes of Wales and Iran who were unbelievable bad Senegal are a different proposition.
I can see Senegal being to strong, fast and positive against a negative thinking England manager who always sets his side up on the Safe side
It will be close but I am going 3-2 Senegal

Re: England v Senegal WC R16
This is the round when the cream rises to the top and I expect England to win comfortably.
The gods have intervened for Foden due to the Sterling issue (sounds serious, hope not, best wishes). I rate Foden as twice the player and if we are to win the World Cup he has to start. He is the one player I see as having a chance to outdo Mbappe in the next round if we progress.
p.s. I am sure Safegate would have picked Sterling, but if Foden delivers he would be undroppable. Let’s remember there are only 3 attack minded players still, hard for them with little support.

Good luck.
Re: England v Senegal WC R16
3 drinks in, thanks to Southgate for instilling belief into the nation again and making the nation fall back in love with the national team. Some will truly never be happy and would rather we were back to the dark days of Sven, Capello, Mclaren, Roy.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 6:47 pmNo point speculating until we have heard from the all knowing KRBC

It’d be nice to see someone putting a belting cross in for Kane, rather than seeing him crossing it!

Encouraging start from England but we need to be wary of the counter.

Kane might not have scored yet but he does have 3 assists to his name.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 7:13 pmIt’d be nice to see someone putting a belting cross in for Kane, rather than seeing him crossing it!

Re: England v Senegal WC R16
Very early opinion I know but Foden looks a little too lightweight for this match. They are big, strong, athletes and the few times he’s been near the ball they’ve shrugged him off.

Very true! His all round play is quality, and I’ve no issues when he drops deep fir the ball. I merely posted that after he’d swung that beauty of a cross in and no one was on the end of it!

Re: England v Senegal WC R16
Kane was the best first time striker of a ball since Shearer. His body position was always set for where the goal is. He seems to have lost that ability and always wants a first touch.
Cummon Harry just tw@ one in.

Fair point and that is where you need a midfield runner to be bursting a gut to get into the box.box_of_frogs wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 7:19 pmVery true! We're very slow getting forward with both Rice and Henderson playing . Saka needs to get into the game .

To slow and plodding, need midfield to move and pull them out of shape. Very predictable and defendable at the moment

Nobody to pass to because we are playing too slow. Any movement and they are being marked. Need to step up the pace.
