I think we've been through all this.
Maybe in fifteen years, when he's won everything there is to win in club football, but not yet. Up and coming managers like VK just don't go into national management.

I’m pretty sure the Man City job will be on VK’s career roadmap, getting promoted with Burnley is likely to offer the more direct route.

I'm hoping it's come too early for him. Also, national football management isn't for everyone. Large gaps between games won't be the same buzz as day-to-day management, with at least one competitive match per week.

Has Martinez left?
Can't really see how he could have done any better for them, their "golden generation" has aged.

Kompany won't take the Belgium gig he's building something at Burnley and if or more likely when we gain promotion his reputation will be further enhanced in England, and even more so if he can keep us in the PL for a season or two.

Belgium have an ageing squad with apparently internal unrest, and the next Euro's is still 18 months away for starters.

Sure Vincent Kompany will leave Burnley one day but it won't be to Belgium.

Wasn't it his job to renew/replenish the playing stock?

As the manager it's his job to introduce new players to the squad and phase out others when he feels they've reached the end of their usefulness.

Stepped down after Belgium failed to qualify for the knockout stages.

However, he always said he'd leave after the WC.

We would be better off for some if we only had players and managers no other club/country may want

Assuming the quality is there in order to replace the older squad members.

If he's not giving them a chance, then he'll never know.

To be fair, he probably wouldn't bother if he intended to step down.
Their squad with Lukaku, Kompany Hazzard etc was exceptional given the pool of players to pick from.

Martinez was a manager who was incredibly lucky to get the Belgian National Team job when they had these players available. He must have a great agent (or do some fantastic PowerPoint presentations) as he’s not a very good manager and his pragmatism held them back.

All of the above can be said about Southgate with England too imo.

Hazard has been injury hit, out of form and unreliable since he went to RM.
Lukaku has had a sketchy time since he made the Chelsea move.

Other players have been out of form, but RM has persisted with them.

From a top Belgian journo:

“He is interested in the position of coach of De Rode Duivels and the national team will come to him one day or another, but it is not the right timing. He wants to stay and blend body and soul into the process initiated at Burnley,”

“According to the information I have obtained from Vincent Kompany’s entourage, for the moment he would not be interested in the position of coach of De Rode Duivels. He wants to continue to raise the club, to make it progress, he wants to continue his adventure. He is a young coach, he wants to test himself and needs to work daily with a team,”
