Re: January transfer window rumours.
McNeil on form certainly is in our first eleven, but the one we sold would not get in ahead of Benny or Zaroury on either wing. To be clear, I’m a big fan of McNeil too and was very excited to see what he’d do at this level.
Very harsh though to call the players who didn’t perform in the Premier League as dross, they’ve mostly given us excellent service so do not deserve that. Are the likes of Rodriguez, JBG, Cork et al still capable at that level? I have my doubts for next season but would never refer to them with such disdain! Brownhill likewise, he played in a midfield two - let’s see how he does a level higher in a three, might surprise a few.

McNeil has 2 goals and 2 assists in 17 games. They are not that different in ability. Everton will no doubt make a profit. They fan base are just clowns that expect to be signing Mbappe.
Don’t forgot milltown McNeil is still playing and performing at a level our best palyers have either failed at or never played at.
Not to say they won’t be better but right now they are not.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I don't want to get into a big argument, as UTC is wont to do, but McNeil is an excellent young footballer who fell into a bit of a rut, and has ended up at a toxic football club on a downward curve.
I reckon a season here, in this team, under VK, would have done wonders for him and seen him thrive.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Do we know when JBG and Benson are expected to be back
A concern, given some tough looking fixtures coming up, is our lack of options wide right
We were much changed and disjointed on Saturday but offered nothing as an attacking threat down that side. Tella isn't suited to the role and we do look like we lack balance when we have Zaroury hugging the touchline on the left
If we are just talking 1/2 games then I'm sure we'll cope but if one or both are likely to be out 4/6 games then we need cover unless someone else can adapt and play a similar wide role

If true you’d think he’d be for the development squad.

Be interested to know why he turned down the offer of a 3 year contract extension with Man Utd

Think I read somewhere that both might be back after Norwich!? I’m still hoping Benny’s back in time for this Saturday, but I have a feeling this won’t be the caseEarbyClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 7:17 pmDo we know when JBG and Benson are expected to be back

I have said on many occasions he’s bobbins.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 6:27 pmDon't think anyone's said McNeil is bobbins. He really wasn't. If he could kick with his right foot, learn to shoot, take a man on every now and then, cross accurately from deep and push into dangerous back post positions, he'd be almost as good as Zaroury.
And that's not a criticism of McNeil.. Its a statement of how good Zaroury is...nowt to do with divisions... Leighton James, Keith Newton and Martin Dobson played in the second tier for us... But we knew how good they were.

Would imagine any deal for Sotona is more likely to be announced by Academy’s social media.

Well it's obvious you don't watch football then.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 6:23 pmPlayer that has played his whole career at prem level wouldn’t get in our side
Come on do people actually watch football. He would arguably be the best player in the league.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Mcneil’s major problem is that he’s too one footed, and I know that there’s been many a top player who could only use one leg,but when you play on the wing an experienced fullback will have you in his pocket, that’s why our 2 wingers are much better options than McNeil being 2 footed.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
In addition to Tweedy, the U21s also welcome fellow attacker Deji Sotona who most recently played for French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
A Republic of Ireland youth international, Sotona came through the ranks at Manchester United and has also enjoyed loans from Nice back to the UK with both Brentford & Kilmarnock.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
A Jan transfer window thread that is either a place for petty arguments or discussing past players can't we stick to rumours even made up ones ??
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sotona looks really quick ,probably a bit cocky, but better than being a shrinking violet, think Craig Bellamy could make a player out of him.

Sotona was quicker than Rashford when he was 16 apparently. When Sotona was 16, not Rashford.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Finally, and in terms of departures, there were some proposals that reached Alvalade in recent days, such as the loan from central St. Juste to a German club but the only novelty should really be the transfer of Jovane Cabral to an English team, in this case Burnley. The striker who, after renewing, never became a regular option for Rúben Amorim in the eleven, should leave on loan with a purchase option, recovering a deal that was lined up in August but ended up falling through in the final part.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
My concern in the summer when we were linked with him is how little football he's played in the past few seasons, in fact in his whole career.burnley007 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 10:18 pmFinally, and in terms of departures, there were some proposals that reached Alvalade in recent days, such as the loan from central St. Juste to a German club but the only novelty should really be the transfer of Jovane Cabral to an English team, in this case Burnley. The last three league campaigns have seen him play 40 matches, starting 12 games and coming on as sub in the other 28.
Edited to include his loan spell at Lazio.
