Re: Kevin Long
I’ve just seen the headline “Burnley man attracting top-flight interest ahead of January transfer window” and thought maybe Brownhill, one of the wide players or maybe even Roberts or Taylorrandomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 1:25 pmAlan Nixon reporting Aberdeen and Hibs are interested
Needless to say after reading the details I’m not concerned

Re: Kevin Long
I think KL should jump at this opportunity and extend his career. He could be very effective in the SPL. He will go up in my estimation if he is willing to go out on loan rather than just drawing a wage for not getting into the first team squad

Re: Kevin Long
Makes sense for him to move on I'd have thought, and I daresay it suits the club to get him off the wage bill. There might be a couple like that in January.

Re: Kevin Long
There is absolutely no point for him staying here
Mind you, that has been the case for the majority of his career and I hope that he doesn't regret his choices later in life

Come on Kev....time to fly the nest and earn your keep.
Sure he will do OK up there.

Re: Kevin Long
Hibs I could see needing a centre back in January, rumours are they'll cash in on Ryan Porteous, who is entering the final 6 months of hic existing contract, and he is adamant he won't sign a new deal.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 1:25 pmAlan Nixon reporting Aberdeen and Hibs are interested
I know it's the SPL but Kev Long would do well to note how well Scott Arfield has done since heading north, and there's far worse places to live then Edinburgh.
If it gets Long off our wage bill and offers him regular footy this might suit all parties.

Re: Kevin Long
Can sort pf understand why he'd fancy being occasional cover in the Premier League. But that's not the case now so he surely needs the move.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 1:41 pmThere is absolutely no point for him staying here

Re: Kevin Long
The season Kevin Long made the most league appearances for us was the season we finished 7th in the Premier League when he played 16 games. But other than that he averages 6.5 games per season in the 14 years he has been here.
Re: Kevin Long
Or he may just fancy sitting tight for another 6 months while he's on relatively good money and becoming a free agent this summer.

69 appearances in 12 years. Great work if you can get it.

If we will pay the difference in his wages until his contract is up, sure. He won't get paid anywhere near as much up there.

i imagine a number of those will have been as a substitute.
Re: Kevin Long
How many managers did he work under at BFC
Yet not one of them has tried to get him off the wage bill - certainly never transfer listed
A 4th choice maybe, but seemed to be accepted by them all as a decent cover for injuries
He's a legend and I could see him coming back as manager one day

Re: Kevin Long
Whenever called upon he has never let us down.
He's never downed tools or kicked up a fuss.
Anyone who saw him celebrating on the pitch with the rest of the players at the end a recent game could see how much a part of it he is - new signings and oldies all part of it.
Clearly well liked and respected by all.

Re: Kevin Long
Agree with this. Was a key squad member who didnt cost a great deal and didnt rock the boat when not selected for the first XI.HunterST_BFC wrote: ↑Tue Dec 27, 2022 5:13 pmWhenever called upon he has never let us down.

He has to a certain degree kept Mee & Tarks on their toes and was an able deputy when required. If he had not been there we would probably have had to pay a lot bigger fee / salary to someone else who may not have been as happy to sit on the bench week in week out.

I like Kevin Long, think he's played an important role over the years for probably a low cost. It's important for players to know their worth and role, never been a bad apple, part of the furniture. I think he'd do really well in Scotland.

Re: Kevin Long
He's an Irish International and he did ok on the times he was selected to play. He never put his hand up and gave away a penalty like Colluns did, which I think caused us to lose THAT game and be relegated.
Regarding CB's two who left us last season coukd well be in relegated teams. Whats happened to Michael Keane?

Re: Kevin Long
Yes Kevin Long is an Irish international player and played well for both Burnley and Ireland, when called upon.
All credit to the lad and whatever happens, I thank him for his devotion to the progress and success of Burnley FC.

Re: Kevin Long
I always thought he should be on the bench, especially for defending in later stages against physical teams like Sheffield United. But the manager doesn't do that, he just attacks more.
Re: Kevin Long
Fair play to the lad. When he's been called upon you can tell he's given it his all. What else can you do?

Re: Kevin Long
So the best players should be loyal and fully commit to a club and their contract, but squad players should do us all a favour and move on if they're not playing much? I'll let the manager(s) decide the relative worth of a player and when it's time to go. To be fair, the fact he is being linked with clubs probably means Kompany has had the chat.
I don't blame the player at all for being comfortable and happy with his life with Burnley.
