Did we lose 6-5 ?

Think Dyche definitely gets the best out of him but on reflection I was probably to harsh on him.

Re: Dwight
What's funny about this thread is how fickle all fans are. Now we're not winning Dwight is a hero in the making again. At the start of the thread there's lots of moaning about how entitled Everton fans are when they're losing too. You couldnt make it up.
All fans are the same, full of praise when they're winning and massively faulty memories when they're losing.

All fans are not the same. This messageboard for instance often divides opinion. For example there are some people on here who are signalling that Kompany should go if things don't quickly improve, whereas others believe he should stay if we are relegated. Very different positions.willsclarets wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 11:02 pmWhat's funny about this thread is how fickle all fans are. Now we're not winning Dwight is a hero in the making again. Re: Dwight
We should support the club, the chairman, the manager, the team and each and every player through the good times (last season) and the hard/bad times (this season). Like the proverbial 'twelfth man'. We do that reasonably well on match days. Let's continue doing that tonight, Saturday and every game after that. We win, lose and draw 'Together'.

Dyche is playing him in his best position, on the left, he had been playing on the right, and looked gash.

Earlier in the thread two players talked about that are in our squad - Anass Zaroury and Manual Benson.
Who are they? Hopefully they'll get to play for us one day.

Re: Dwight
Always felt a little bit premature hearing comments that we have replaced Dwight with far better players in Benson & Zaroury not quite as daft as the Dyche coached all the ability out of Dwight but heading in that direction.
Far too many are unable to consider there is a difference between the Championship & Premier league.

I don't think it helps when VK said we've since managed to get players who are as good as them. Hardly does much for their confidence.

Re: Dwight
Dwight and Koleosho have similar minutes this season and identical goal / assist records (1 assist each). Luca has 42 progressive dribbles, 3x that of Dwight, similar dribbles in total, suggesting many of Dwight’s are backwards (unsurprisingly).
I like Dwight, but there is little evidence Everton are better than us in the position he plays in or upfront. Defensive midfield and defence are of course different matters, as is the defensive contribution from the winger. Goals though, we are fine.

This is pretty difficult to justify from the stats.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:47 amDwight and Koleosho have similar minutes this season and identical goal / assist records (1 assist each). We've got one of the lowest numbers of shots attempted, expected goals and actual goals in the league. It's gone under the radar a bit with how poor we've been in other areas of the pitch but we've been struggling to score as well:

(Also other interesting stuff on there about how slow our build-up is and a few others)

Koleosho has probably exceeded expectation this year given he had hardly played a game for his previous club and was an only a substitute for Italy u19s in the recent World Cup.
But he is miles behind Dwight McNeil as a footballer. And at the moment our performances are miles behind Evertons.
And one of our biggest problems is very clearly the few good chances we are making. Not sure what the definition of a progressive dribble is but my eyes tell me he has very little end product or awareness of where his team mates are. And when he is going on a run down the wing we do not have enough players getting along side him.

Re: Dwight
Of course there is variance, but there are patterns. Here is a manager who completely overhauled an ageing sqaud, and within a season won us the championship with +100 points. 10 games into the new season, he's not the messiah anymore. You can't tell me there isn't a tendency among fans to see the small picture and not the bigger one.taio wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 11:21 pmAll fans are not the same. Stats are good for verificaiton but in isolation are totally overrated imo - they really need to back up the eye test and other metrics

Considering one man to be the "messiah" is as close to seeing the small picture and not the bigger one as you can get.willsclarets wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:38 pmOf course there is variance, but there are patterns.
