Tarks has been poor all season for them. His pace has been consistently exposed.
No he hasn't. He was great earlier in the season, so much so there were calls for a late England squad inclusion - https://twitter.com/bbcmotd/status/1584 ... 24?lang=en

I feel sorry for Dwight, there is a good player in there, but Benson and Zaroury's ability to go inside or out, their pace, their ability to score goals, regular, there's no way Dwight would get in this team.
But you are not comparing like for like. How many good defenders have we really faced this season?

Rovers are 3rd and their defence looked all over the place.

Shock the stats they show are blocks and interceptions.

He’s been consistently exposed this season and has looked poor. Yesterday was up there as one of the worst CB performances you will see in the prem this season.

Yeah, they're not going to show goals and assists. He's a defender.

Just admit you've gone in full blooded with a completed plucked out of thin air opinion based on nothing so we can all move on and save ourselves a tedious exchange.

Some of the comments on here are absolutely clueless. Stick Zaroury or Benson out wide in a Dyche setup and see how successful they'd be. McNeil would have thrived in our current team and been one of our best players.
You have to be on the wind up surely, McNeil wouldn’t of thrived at all in this team, way to slow on the ball, the moments benson has created McNeil wouldn’t be able to create, the goal zaroury scored against rovers with his weak left foot, McNeil wouldn’t score with his strong left foot

I've also seen Everton play several times this season. Tarkowski has been one of their strongest players. As an aside his rating is higher than any other of their players on whoscored.

I am pretty sure I saw a MoTD where Danny Murphy described him as the best English defender at that time and Lineker agreed. That was this season and was not based on the one game.

My mate at work who is an Everton season ticket holder likes Tarks, not so keen on Dwight. So he is obviously lying even though he's seen every game?

We played a couple of games where Dwight had TAA on toast, but it doesn't deflect from the fact he has limited strings to his bow. I'm not trying to knock him, but today if I had to pick 2 of the 3 to start, Dwight would be on the bench.

He, like Keane is a very good player who's become the subject of an underperforming team with bad management.
I don't understand how we can already say the players that we have now will be better when they are completely untested in the Premier League, there's a good chance that like Everton and McNeil, they and us will also struggle if we get promoted.

In my opinion he is best used as a central player than a winger, which was mainly where he played in youth. His move to the wing comes from his ability to cross well and to track back, but you need pace to play on the wing well in the Premier League. In a system that can support a Mezzala with him playing centrally but drifting out wide, I think he'd do well.

I also agree with others that state he became a victim of Dyche's tactics. Instead of improving his natural game he was forced to defend more and fit into a specific system. The same kind of thing happened with Boyd when he signed for us (and Hull) after being a number 10 thriving at Peterborough.

The poor geordie never fails to amuse.

He did though tell anyone who listened we will struggle this season and stand a much better chance of going down than up based on his knowledge on the division. Now he claims he had no idea the division was this bad.

It is like he has to take a contrary stance to things on here just to get by. Could probably benefit from long slow deep breaths into a paper bag at times.

Without trying to have a dig, you generally find it’s those that watch most of their football on TV and study stats online that have those strong opinions, they sort of think they’re experts based on listening to opinions all the time.

Perfectly summed up.

He used to do the players ratings which went along the lines of Brownhill 4 - never be a footballer

Then when questioned he would come out with pass completion of 71.3548% then the number of forward passes and misplaced passes. Normally within minutes of fulltime :D I have never met anyone who goes to games and would even know the basic stats accurately.

I thought it was Martin Keown who said he was the best English defender at the time. He and Coady held Everton together early in the season and probably at the Etihad last week.

He's been great for Everton but clearly not his best game

Mind you, its is peak Everton for blaming their left winger for conceding four

Pretty sure it was Danny Murphy who said it
