Darts World Championship

Post by claretburns » Sun Jan 01, 2023 12:33 pm

Not seen a thread for the World Championships this year, I hope we have some darts fans who post on here. Quarter Finals take place today with the following schedule:

12:40 - Dimitri Van den Bergh v Jonny Clayton
14:10 - Michael Smith v Stephen Bunting
19:40 - Gerwyn Price v Gabriel Clemens
21:10 - Michael van Gerwen v Chris Dobey

For me it is heading for a MVG v Price final with MVG winning, he is in great form at the moment.

Been some brilliant darts this year.

Can't see past MVG.

Don't think Price will make the final, so think the actual final will be a none event.

I'm not a fan of Price however a Price - MVG would be the best for the neutrals. The bully boy won't be easy if Price meets him in the semi-final though.

Don’t bet but Dimi VdB always gets my backing. Playing very nicely. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s semi 🇧🇪

What's Price on about with that Tweet? He dishes it out plenty but can't take it. Guy's a weapon.

QFs were really poor. The best match in the tournament was Ross Smith vs Dirk van Duijvenbode. Feels like an MVG procession this year. An in-form Michael Smith might give him a game but his QF was weird - outscored by the Bullet and relying on doubles. I would go as far to say this has been the least enjoyable PDC for years. Josh Rock was the point of interest and whilst I think he handled himself well overall, The Ferret had too much nouse for him this year.

The referee should have spotted the encroachment from MVG and stopped it. Did he really need to do it to give himself an edge given how well he is playing? Just looks like bad sportsmanship to me. Not a particularly bold prediction on my part but I expect MVG to cruise to victory tonight.

I think Smith has only beaten him once so it's looking good for MVG.

Absolutely sensational leg of darts about 10 minutes ago. Both players on the 9 darter, MVG misses double 12 and then Smith hits it, unbelievable.

Currently had 18 180s in 15 legs of darts, the standard is ridiculous.

Switched over from footy just before it happened. The best leg in the history of the sport.

Amazing leg but imagine if MVG had hit his double. I might be wrong but I dont think two players have ever both got a 9 darter in the same leg

Superb from Michael Smith - I could not be happier for anyone winning that after all his jitters in major finals, including the World Final twice. That was probably the toughest to win given MVG's form in the previous rounds, but now he has got there, I think he could win one or two more.

MVG was very gracious in defeat too which was great to hear - I think he knew just how much it means to Bully Boy and just how superb his performance was tonight.

Well done Bully Boy - enjoy your celebration!

Outstanding. As discussed earlier in thread- MvG just missed double 12 with his ninth dart, Smith hit double 12 with his 9th. Bit of a blow for MvG to play like that and lose the leg before he got a 10th dart.
