Jack Cork
Jack Cork
Imagine he was pulled as on his tenth Yellow and wanted to avoid a sending off. Does he miss WBA and PNE or WBA and the tractor boys Ipswich in the cup.
My understanding is yellows are competition specific so he misses the two league games.

WBA and Tractor Boys I think

It was another very stupid tackle from our captain and tried a2 footer earlier(on the edge of our box) bout fortunately missed man and ball.
Too many unnecessary rash challenges recently (IMO)

We were saying this before and after the game, today. He’s having a fine season, aside from too many unnecessary bookings. Tactical yellows I can understand, less so the silly ones. The one today was far from the silliest he’s had this season - more a pointless attempt at a challenge that it was obvious he couldn’t make.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:10 pmIt was another very stupid tackle from our captain and tried a2 footer earlier(on the edge of our box) bout fortunately missed man and ball.

Disappointing to lose him for the West Brom game - he’s been superb this season.

I think you’ve just got to accept due to his age he has lost his sharpness in those situations, personally I’d accept it as one of those things because he’s still the most intelligent footballer at the club in my opinionDCWat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:15 pmWe were saying this before and after the game, today. Too slow to make these now. Today was a shocker as he actually really missed the guy.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:10 pmIt was another very stupid tackle from our captain and tried a2 footer earlier(on the edge of our box) bout fortunately missed man and ball.

We will suffer losing THB and Cork from the WBA game, their link up from defence to midfield and their passing range is crucial to how we play.

Re: Jack Cork
I do think he misses the next two EFL games not one FA Cup match and WBA
Re: Jack Cork
I suspect getting booked today wasn’t the worst thing given the cup match is one his misses.
Re: Jack Cork
Looks good against any team that defends deep
But a team that presses high shows him up for his lack of pace - hence his number of silly yellow cards
Same for Cullen
They will get found out next season in the Premier League

Re: Jack Cork
We looked miles better second half without him and whilst him Cullen and Brownhill are my starting three there's a real case for sacrificing Cork to be a bit more attacking.
Longer term I can see where maybe Twine comes in and Cullen and Brownhill form the base of our midfield.
If Cork plays that second half today IMO we dont win

He could end up getting to 15 booking and a 3 game ban, I can't remember us ever doing this.

Re: Jack Cork
Silly yellow but I wouldn't want to change the way JC plays. IMO far and away our best player this season and he will be sadly missed for the WBA game especially. I'd be inclined to move Brownhill into that role in his absence and play the influential JBG wide left or right.

Re: Jack Cork
Brownhill is much better playing in the deeper role. I don't think he's technically good enough to play the "number 10" position.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:07 pmWe looked miles better second half without him and whilst him Cullen and Brownhill are my starting three there's a real case for sacrificing Cork to be a bit more attacking.

We also looked very good at Bournemouth with the Cullen/Brownhill pivot. Good options to have.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 11:07 pmWe looked miles better second half without him and whilst him Cullen and Brownhill are my starting three there's a real case for sacrificing Cork to be a bit more attacking.

Re: Jack Cork
We looked miles better second half for different reasons than Cork not playing. The idea that we wouldn't have won the game with him is laughable.

Re: Jack Cork
The reasons behind looking better without Cork are most probably all based around having a teller card after 10 minutes, restricting a lot of his natural grittiness in a first half that required a lot of that kind of work against an opponent who had some decent players . Good move to take him off , but he’s been excellent this season, can’t say otherwise .

Re: Jack Cork
He’s arguably been our best player this season.
JBG played really well when he came on but he could have replaced Cullen or Brownhill and had the same impact.
Our second half performances show that most opposition teams are out on their feet the last 25 minutes. Jack Cork is usually on the pitch at this point and there is nothing to suggest yesterday would have been any different.

Re: Jack Cork
Main reason being that we don't have a like for like change for him, in arguably the most high intensity area of the pitch where telling tackles go in, we need to find one so that we can give him a game off now and then and let his replacement take a booking or 2. Think bastien was brought in for this, but not quite at the level Cork is at, but who knows given game time.claretandy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 7:53 amHe could end up getting to 15 booking and a 3 game ban, I can't remember us ever doing this.

Re: Jack Cork
Jack's yellows are just part of VKs game plan. City are always giving away cheap free kicks in order to stifle any counters. Jack is just getting punished a lot harsher than City players do, for the same gamesmanship.

Fernandinho got booked nearly every game he played.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 10:07 amMain reason being that we don't have a like for like change for him, in arguably the most high intensity area of the pitch where telling tackles go in, we need to find one so that we can give him a game off now and then and let his replacement take a booking or 2. It’s part of the strategy.
If you press so hard and so high and you are pushing your full backs so far forward and one of your centre backs may have also come past the half way line with the ball if this breaks down like it often will then the strategy is to bring down their player before they break / out number you.
Every player is under instruction to do this but for whatever reason it tended to be Fernandinho more than the other City players it seems like it’s Jack Cork for us.
Re: Jack Cork
However, the changes this season will see yellow cards only counting in the competition they are received.
May be wrong but this came in in 19-20 season so I still think Jack misses WBA and Norwich games

We were roughed up a few times earlier this season. I think Cork recently has been more aggressive and combative than ever before. Some of the challenges have been properly old school. He's giving us a bit of fire and showing we won't be pushed around. I'm quite enjoying seeing him do it.

It’s a blow for sure, but Saturday and Bournemouth showed us we can drop Brownhill in there with Cullen and use the likes of JBG (or maybe even Twine?) very effectively as a ten.

I thought suspensions carried over in to cup. Odd timing then. I’d have asked him to pick up his tenth a few games ago if that’s the case.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 11:34 amMissed West Brom & Norwich according to club.

So does that mean if he gets sent off against Ipswich, and we lose ,he won’t get a ban until the 3rd round next year?

Re: Jack Cork
Jack was bound to be suspended sooner or later, not ideal timing given we face West Brom and Norwich in our next couple of league games, however VK does have options available, judging by how the 2nd half played out against Coventry we can cope without Cork for 2 games surely.
