Brownhill
Re: Brownhill
I was literally the only person in the main threads before the summer window that said we should keep him...
He's not even hit the peak age for a player in his position yet and I am glad VK agrees with me... With the adulation, VK has given him lately and the commitment to get him signed on a longer deal really pleases me...
He will be as important to the team in the next few years if we stay in the Prem and he stays as Cork is to the team now!

If that player is someone like Diego Penny - fine but when its somebody who has clearly been a very good signing now playing pretty much every minute for the most inform team in the country and if you have eyes, then its just a bit strange.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:55 amThis board is so strange. It is also a board, where near enough every valuable and contributing player we have had over the last 5 years has been completely written off by most members of this board!... (Usually, after a long-term injury layoff and for that player to prove them wrong... AGAIN!)...Newcastleclaret93 wrote: This board is so strange. 99.9% of members of this board have been totally discredited when it comes to judging Burnley players talents!

Re: Brownhill
The same people that could see Dyche doing no wrong can also not see how Brownhill constantly loses the ball in the prem usually leading to a goal against.
He scored a good goal against Watford last season can’t remember him doing anything else of note.
There was that embarrassing jumping around the ball against Liverpool which one poster thought was prime Xavi for some reason.
I really hope we have some targets to replace him and Cork when we go up as usually Jack has the whole midfield to run on his own when Josh loses the ball in an advanced position.
I rate Cork but he’s not getting any younger.

Replacing him with someone with much better control and a similar work rate and physicality is going to be well beyond our transfer means I feel

If Brownhill could stop losing the ball in such vital areas he may yet come good but he has to cut those errors out of his game completely.

According to FBref data, Brownhill is joint top of ‘goal creating actions’ in the entire league this season

Quite interesting to see him up there Ndiaye / Chair, both of whom are very highly rated with fees of 10-15m+ mentioned.

Re: Brownhill
It’s hard to say. In general, I can see why you might say this, as at PL level he struggled to impose himself consistently and struggled with ball retention. However, the questions I’d have are:Vincent'sCap wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 12:50 pmBrownhill is an excellent Championship footballer,Premier league? Simply not good enough
Will he look better in VK’s system?
As a CM in the 4-4-2 Dyche played, it is a completely different role and system to now. VK clearly likes his work off the ball a lot, gets through an awful lot of pressing high up the pitch.
Is he entering his peak?
Just turned 27, are his best years ahead of him? I’m sure the past few seasons experience in the PL will also stand him in good stead.
Can he be a useful squad player?
I don’t see why not. Clearly a team player, very well liked and ‘gets Burnley’. Those traits alone are useful in the squad.

Re: Brownhill
Personally I think Brownhill will be a valuable player if we go up. Playing in a 3 clearly suits him - as others have said, and as I alluded to higher up the thread, a role which enables him to get forwards and make effective third man runs to support the attacking players as well as defend, gets far more from him than a more limited role focused on providing defensive cover. Dyche had him doing the latter as one of two central midfielders staying behind the ball.
He may not start every game, but I think it'd be tough for us to sign players who replicate his athleticism, physicality and the intelligence with which he uses those attributes. He's also a leader and a communicator, and with this extra experience he adds something that we may not have in abundance next season in the Premier League. There's a reasonable argument that of our starting midfield right now, he's the most likely to adapt to being a regular in the Premier League - and I say that with no disrespect to Cork (top class player but I think we know age may limit his Premier League role) or Cullen (fantastic pass-and-move operator, but he'll have to prove he can live with the physical demands of the top flight).

Re: Brownhill
Is there any interest in him this transfer window?
The number 10 role is Twines now and anything north of 15m would be tempting for Josh, surely?

Re: Brownhill
I don’t get this that Twine has suddenly become our new no 10,ok he’s scored a brilliant free kick ,I think he’s too easily knocked off the ball, you may be right ,but he needs a lot more games to come to that conclusion.

Re: Brownhill
Exactly this. Sure Twine is a free kick expert no doubt but how on earth he has suddenly become so elevated in peoples ratings is really puzzling for me.
Happy to have him on board but let's keep a sense of reality here.
Re: Brownhill
Brownhill will be a vital player for us next season no matter what league we are in and whoever we may sign.
Twine is an interesting one; on one hand he is clearly very talented, but on the other, he is very raw and lacking in any experience beyond league 1. If we go up, he may find himself struggling for minutes with a Championship loan a possibility. It’s all guess work, but the jump from league 1 to the Prem is a huge one to make effectively in such a short space of time.

Re: Brownhill
Brownhill isn't a number 10, is useless with a deadball and if anybody is stupid enough to pay 15m+ then we should sell, the squad is massive and the money in Kompanys hands would be useful.

Re: Brownhill
I think he is a good old fashioned centre mid/box to box type of midfielder. He does have weaknesses, which you have highlighted, but I believe these are far outweighed by his energy, his ability to read a game for interceptions, his ability to keep the ball and his experience at the top level make him invaluable next season and hopefully beyond in my opinion.

Eh this is silly and makes no sense! I don’t think there is 1 person on this board that doesn’t think Dyche did things wrong in his tenure but there is an acceptance that a lot of what he did wrong was at least partially down to the Clubs circumstances.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 9:05 amThe same people that could see Dyche doing no wrong can also not see how Brownhill constantly loses the ball in the prem usually leading to a goal against.

Who would you buy at £15M to replace him? Needs to be PL ready/proven.
On your comments in Twine taking the 10, we've no idea how he'll perform in the PL. For that matter, we've no idea really how he performs in the Championship given his lack of minutes.
You're coming out with some weird takes and I'm struggling to understand if they're serious.

I was hoping some desperate bottom half Premier league club would come in with a ridiculous offer.
Re: Brownhill
Spot on. They must be watching a different Premier league. From what i see, in the modern day Prem, you don't get much time on the ball at all. Most teams suffocate you with the pressing.

Re: Brownhill
Maybe you should ask for a seat facing the pitch (or turn your chair around to face the TV) in future.
The idea that you get more time and space in the Premier League than in the Championship is completely laughable.
Re: Brownhill
I think teams can be a bit cleverer about where they give you time on the ball in the Premier League although it’s usually in your own back third.
I also think players are a bit more respectful of each other and know they will get done if they dive in.
Both of these factors can give the appearance of players having more time.
